Competition Boost at the line?

Competition Bottom turbo on twins

OK, I am trying to find out what my speed would be at the end of the quarter mile with my truck. I punch is 7000 lbs, and 500 hp. I am getting times that are around 13. 7 - 13. 9. Problem is these calculators dont ask what gears i use... I have 4. 10 gearing. I am trying to find out the perfect tire size for my truck at the strip. You can look at my sig for what else its got.

P. S. Drag Racers. . What rpm's should i be shooting for when crossing the 1/4 mile mark>?

I'd like to help you, but there are a lot of factors. First, most calculations don't work because they are based on gas engines, which don't have nearly the torque we have.

Then you have to consider what boost you'll be launching at, and

your transmission (shift points, L/U), 4x4, etc. will play critical roles too.

I always run the same tire size, and don't do calculations; I just run it and make changes as "opportunity" provides... I've got a 12V; don't know a thing about newer rigs...

Have you been to the track yet, or just speculating? I encourage you to simply run it, and not fall into the "should" trap. Happens to guys in regards to HP all the time... ;) If you haven't done a search yet for info on this, do that too.

IMO with 500 rwHP and 7000 lbs, you will see 100 - 102 mph. Depending on how well you launch, when/if you lock up the TC and some other factors will vary your ET.

JMO... ;)

The short answer would be to cross the line at/near the redline for max rotational velocity. But that may not be possible if gearing options aren't good.

I've never drag raced a CTD Ram, nor have any experience with driving a slushbox version of one. And like said above, the variables are almost endless.

Here goes... (its lunch time):

Using what I can remember from my days messing with the Mustang; and using your 13. 9 time (certainly not a factory representative model), a SWAG for a Camaro/Mustang would say you're around 102'ish mph. (Again, this is a Scientific Wild A$$ guess). But I just saw Rhonda's 12. 68/104; maybe it would be better to guess 13. 9/95 for our trucks?

For trap speeds. Using 35" for rolling diameter, and truck has Auto (. 69 OD) & 4. 10's; Locked up in OD @ 3200 rpm truck will do 118 mph (you'll never see this with your truck in the 1/4 mile). In direct (1. 0 - my math assumes TC locked), @ 3200 truck will run 81 mph (piece of cake, but it'll be a slow ET). Your 13. 9'ish scenario puts you somewhere in the middle here for trap speeds. Have any idea what speed the truck will do in OD with the TC unlocked?

My 1st impression is that 4. 10's probably aren't the best choice for drag racing these trucks; and ignoring the safety aspects of drag racing with 35" off-road type tires, I'm not sure the bigger diameter is helping you either. Smaller tires may help keep you in the powerband if locked up thru the traps.

Irregardless, you want to get the hardest launch possible (nothing new in drag racing), and if possible let her shift up into OD and lock to go through the traps in OD around 96mph @ 2600 rpm.

Don't forget, you get what you pay for, and this was free. :)

bulabula (thx for the time on lunch) and everyone else thanks for taking the time to help me out here. I appreciate it.

I'm not sure when tracks in the Chicago area open, but I'm looking forward to seeing your track times.

And don't forget, your best times will come when you drive it like you stole it. I've always had some heartburn with driving new street vehicles in that manner. And sometimes, "stuff" happens at the track and things break, causing a new vehicle to get a ride home on a flatbed.

ill be at route 66 at least 3 weekends out of every month during the summer. All my buddies take there 3rd, 4th gen f-bodys out there to race all the time. Buddy with a 1500 gmc truck (LMAO) always comes up with a trailor incase one of us blow something up so im not worried.

If you run 13. 7-13. 9 you should go thru the lights at 97-99. With our CTD's you develop peak hp a couple of hundred rpm below the redline. What you find is that if you set up for redline just as you cross the 1/4 mark you will actually go slower than if you shoot for 2700-2800.
