Hey all,

I have been experimenting with pump timing and asking a lot of questions over the past months. Recently I set the pump timing to 1. 4 mm and noticed an improvement in fuel economy. I am now getting 17 MPG on the freeway at 80 MPH indicated (75 MPH actual). This is an improvement of 0. 5 MPG from when the timing was set to 1. 65 mm. These trips are basically my trips back and forth across which means I fill up and drive, fill up again, and keep driving.

By dropping the timing to 1. 4 mm I also get 18 psi instead of 17 psi max. But it also comes much faster. With 1. 65 mm timing, I would have to stand on the go-pedal and get to maximum speed before it would pull 17 psi. Now with the 1. 4 mm of timing, I can get to the higher levels of boost 15+ much easier.

It was nice that this happened because after I set the engine to 1. 4 mm and fired it up, I liked the sound. It just sounded right, and now I get better fuel economy and more boost too. :)

I am wondering if I should try for even more gains, by trying 1. 3 or 1. 5 mm.

I know if I go as low as 1. 1 mm the boost will come very fast and I should get 19 or more psi. In fact, it would blow the boost sense line right out of the rubber tube so I had to secure it better! I only ran that for 15 miles or so before going with them more middle-ground 1. 4 mm.

Keep in mind this is an intercooled truck so the factory timing is 1. 25 mm. My injectors are stock, factory reman.

Regards,
