I am on the verge of ordering a Westach combo gauge, but don't know if I should get the 1/4 or 1/8 inch thermocouple. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I will be mounting this one post-turbo, and really it will be just for seeing if the engine has cooled enough to shut down after highway runs.

thanks,

It's a close call, but I would opt for the 1/4 NPT. I think it is easier to produce a leak-proof seal with the 1/4 NPT. If you already had the 1/8 NPT tap, then I would go with that size.

Vic,

No big hairy deal either way. My gauge came with the 1/4" and worked fine. Since you have to drill and tap the hole anyway either one is ok. Of course, if you mess it up it helps if you did it with the 1/8". Then you can fix it by going up one to the 1/4". :D If you are going to mount it in an exhaust brake it probably has a taped hole in it already.
