Gentlemen,

I have the need to plug the EGT probe port in my exhaust manifold. It is a 1/8th NPT threaded hole. But I can't find one anywhere today. I have checked Home Depot, Pep Boys and 3 other auto parts stores to no avail.

I also assume that I need a metal (steel) plug and not a brass one - right??

Any help or suggestions as to where else I should look (want to buy locally) for the 1/8 NPT plug, would be appreciated.

JEEZE, they have 'em by the box full in the plumbing section at our local ACE hardware - I even have several out in my junkbox... You should be able to find them with either a allen wrench type socket. or the square peg type for a regular wrench...

Thanks guys, I did not even think about the few little guy hardware stores around here (ACE is a little guy around here). I will try ACE and True Value and a few Mom & Pop hardware stores tomorrow.

The funny thing is that when I am not looking for the darn plug, one day I will walk in to a place that has thousands of them piled in a box and I won't need it then!

I know you already have this resolved.

However for future reference to others that may find this thread.

Brass plugs are not a problem.

Many guys worry about using a brass plug, but they are not an issue. In fact if your hole was tapped a little irregular the brass sometimes even seals up a bit better.

There is nothing better than a mom and pop hardware store. walk in and ask what your looking for and you have it 30 sec later and your gone.

At Home Depot or Lowes you will not find 1/8" pipe plugs with the plumbing fittings... . They both will have them on a rack usually an isle or two over from the plumbing fittings... They are in a rack packaged in plastic... blister packs... usually steel and brass fittings... . in some cases they are in with the fasteners.

But I have this question for you... . most EGT probes are 1/4" NPT..... are you sure you have 1/8" NPT... . The 1/8" NPT looks like a fine thread about 5/16" in diameter, the 1/4" NPT is about 3/8-7/16" diameter and has course looking threads...

I have a 1/8 NPT probe in my truck. The threads are 1/8-27 NPT.

The 1/4" plugs are 1/4-18 NPT.

And there should be no problem with a brass fitting. We have them buy the boxes at work and that is what I plan on using when I move my plug from Post-Turbo to Pre-Turbo.

Had the same problem finding 1/8" NPT. I am installing the Edge Juice/Attitude and that is what it calls for to install the EGT probe. Neither Home Depot or Lowes had it, ended up going to our local plumbing store. I'm sure that your local Ace or plumbers store would have a plug.

Man, the Big Boxes sure have you guys wrapped up.

I sure miss the good old days of the small hardware store or a REAL auto parts store. All you find anymore are the Auto Zones, O'Reilly's, Advance Auto, etc. You get no service. The people working there most times don't have a clue except what the computer tells them.

I really hate the Home Depots and Lowes. No service, and by the time you search and find what you came in for you either forget about the second item or you're too wore out to fix what's broken.

Don't even get me started on the old country stores... .....

If you were willing to drive to SE Pa I'd do it for you. I have all the tools.

Yo Hoot,

Have all the tools too - just did not have the plug, but did find it the next day at a friends shop. Installed in 2. 5 seconds and went on my way. Thanks for the offer.
