Any words of wisdom to keep a DV from leaking?

This has been a slow leak for a while... . but I did some *censored* modifications to the DV's and now the #1 DV is leaking like a MO-FO!

I smoothed out the DV holder with some fine sandpaper..... but now it's leaking even more...

Any help would be most appreciated... .

Matt

Might be the green o-ring. They tend to get abraded and torn when you remove the holder. I put a bit of oil around the holder to minimize this, when removing.

Joe,

I thought the O-Ring was there to prevent contamination of dust/dirt in to the pump and not prevent fuel from leaking out. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks :)

Yeah, I thought the o-rings were just to keep the junk out of the DV assembly too... .

The #1 o-ring is pretty torn up... . much worse than any of the rest of 'em... .

Now I gotta find some o-rings... . it's worth a shot.

Thanks Joe!

Come on guys/gals... Keep on thinking of ways to stop this thing from leaking... . !

Cummins is closed today so that = no o-rings.

I just got in from visiting with my poor incontinent truck... I cranked her over... and man is that thing ever leaking! I can't believe I drove it 80 miles like that!!

I expect a full report on my desk by 08:00 tomorrow as to what are the possible causes for this thing to be leaking and how I can stop it!! ;)

Matt

After you take them out a few times, they do start leaking. The o-rings are for fuel seal. Get some new ones from Cummins and put grease on them before you install them.

Son of a ... . !!

Of to Cummins I go..... I'll be all bright eyed and bushy tailed for them in the AM.

I'll report back on the results... .

Thanks guys/gals... !

Too bad none of you lived closer... and had some o-rings!!

Matt

I just got of the phone with Cummins Northeast..... I was on hold for 10 minutes while they all discussed what in the heck I was looking for.

Then the head guru comes on the phone and says: "Oh, you're gonna have to go to a Bosch dealer for that... . "

Here we go again... .

Matt

Thanks Joe!

That is the funniest looking part # I have ever seen... .

I called a Bosch shop, and the only way they had the seals was to buy a whole rebuild kit for the P7100!

So, I called our friend in Canada and they should be here this AM...

The thoughts I have (and I'm not alone... . )... is that the O-ring can't seal the 10k psi that is being generated in that area. I have issues with my DV holder and my DV itself not having a nice flat surface for a proper seal. I was advised to take the DV holder and the DV and do some figure-8's on some VERY fine sandpaper on a piece of glass..... gotta lap in a new sealing surface.

I'm still gonna put new o-rings in... . cuz' the #1 o-ring is all tore up and could let some crap get in there.

Matt

Well... here I am at work... . and the Cummins is in the parking lot, with no other diesels to talk to. :(

Our good old buddy Piers came through again!

I called him at 12:30PM EST on Monday and the o-rings were at the house by 10:15AM EST on Tuesday morning.

HUGE thanks goes out to Piers and his top notch crew up there in Canada!

I fixed her up this AM before work..... lapped in a new sealing surface on the DV holder and put in a new o-ring. So far - so good!

This concludes yet another story in the endless saga that describes my truck!
