Indiana Hooters Lunch

One week till we all have some fun. The trees are starting to turn colors in the north according to the radio this past week. With the rain we have had up here there should be plenty of mud to sling. Now to the reminders.

1) Those of you that are goint to run the trails don't forget your trail permits. You can get them anyplace that sells Michigan hunting liscenses. Most of the gas stations up here do.

2) I need a reletively accurate count of how many venison steaks I need to marinade. The choice are hot or mild teryaki, Italian or plain. Please post, PM or e-mail me by Thursday morning so I can get them pulled out of the freezer and into the marinade.

3) Best place I have found for fuel is in Rapid River at the corner of US 2 and US 41. The Spur station has been at $1. 49 for two months, The Mobile truck stop finally dropped to $1. 50 this week, they had been running $1. 59-$1. 79 all summer like all of the other places around here. Most of the log haulers around this area stop at the Spur. For those coming from Wisconsin the Shell station on M-35 in Cedar River about half way between Menominee and Escanaba has always had good prices and good truck traffic. I have not been down that way lately to confirm a price.

I think that is all the reminders I have at this time.

See ya all next weekend.

Paul

Paul, will see you at the campground. One mild and one hot.

Hey Mr President R. Thomas, you going to make it?

Bill

My better half just reminded me that another grill will probably be needed. I'm bringing my gas grill which is decent size but is still too small to do all the steaks for the group in on batch. If you have room to pack yours it may not be a bad idea.

Back to prepping the trailer,

Paul

Well I will be their plus bringing one guy with me. Hadn't planed one getting fed though, but since you are offering I would think mild.

Oh ya do you think you can get the trial sticker deals at the welcome center when you cross the border?

I know have 2 running trail tucks and just went though the trailer and changed all the hub oil and such so I am pretty well ready I guess. One truck has a over heating transmission problems maybe, only way to fix it is break it though

Have to change the oil in the dually also.

I rotated the tires, did new front brakes and front shocks on the Deerslayer this morning, so I guess I'm ready. Trailer's still full of provisions after the few days camping with BillH, last week.

Mrs Doc wants mild, I'll take it hot.

I don't have a decent sized grill to bring, so I can't help you there. sorry. Maybe it's time I start thinking about building a party grill. If you have some expanded metal and 34 or so cinder blocks, I'll throw together a temporary grill for ya. I made one of those for the employees picnic a few years ago and it worked great.

Mopar-Mudder,

I don't know about the welcome center, but I do know you can get them at the Holiday gas stations in Menominee or Escanaba.

What time you think you will be coming through Escanaba?

Doc, sounds like a great idea. I don't have any cinder blocks, but I do have a whole pile of bricks from the two chimneys I tore down. I'll see what I can do about expanded metal.

Later, I'm supossed to be on the road in 20 minutes.

Paul

I don't know where I am coming through yet  Think we are going to head up to Ashland, WI and then cut across on HYW 2 to MI. I haven't looked at the map real close yet, but is a 300 mile trip, figure 5-6 hours and I am not sure what time we are leaving but I want to be their my 5:00 at the latest. I just happen to think that we loose an hour going over the border also I believe.

I have a grill I can bring but it is the old Weber charcol grill, none of that fancy gas stuff, real men cook on wood right

Where are all the GLTDR Members?? Are we the only ones going, (Paul, Doctinker, Mopar_Mudder and myself with significent others)? Or is GLTDR going down the tubes?

Or is there only interest when wrenching is to be done?

Just asking.

Would like to get a breakfast going in Oct. or Nov. Is there any interest in one?

I wish I could make it but I'm too busy right now to make it. With the DHRA races Oct 4th and 18th I need to stick around town to get stuff done before winter. We really need someone to step up to the plate and provide some leadership in the presidents position for the club to prosper. I would love to do it but my situation right now won't allow that :( . I sure hope someone steps up because I'd hate to see the club die.

I've been taking a lot of road trips lately or I'd be there. Lisa wouldn't be to happy if I set this as a priority. Of course if my son is in a good mood and the weather is nice, who knows? Maybe I'll be running thru the woods callin' on the radio.

I sure wish I could join you all. The DHRA has burned up most of my vacation days and I have one left for the 2 races in October :( . Doc I might need an excuse for work for one race. :) I work 7 days a week and could not do the club any good as pres at this time. Come on you long time members take the bull, er club by the horns. Our Indiana breakfast had 7 members and 2 guests this last Sunday. Not bad for a beautiful day. I think they will pick up as the weather changes. Kirk

Maybe I should try to put together something mid-state for spring. How about like Higgins Lake area? Nice area and there MUST be some trails to explore. Not so far north might be easier for more of the membership? Just a thought.

Just Lurking,

I am not a member yet of the GLTDR but will be soon. I have been watching you guys for a couple years and really want to meet up with the local chapter, but same story here. I used up all my vacation days to move to new house this year. I did make it to Muncie, and DHRA event at US131 Dragway but did not really introduce myself to many people.

I am very interested in Big Hammers idea of a mid-state spring event. See you all soon.

Don

We had a fire going last year in the center of the campground last year. I think Doc went scrounging in the woods around the campround for firewood. A couple extra sticks wouldn't hurt.

See ya in 24,

Paul

Yes it happened and yes the weather was crapy, but fun was still had. It pretty much rained the entire time but you have to be hard core ;)

Paul has all the pictures, don't know if he got them developed yet or not.

Picked up the pictures today. Walmart screwed up and didn't make the picture cd's. They say I should have them by Thursday.

Of the 55 pics taken about 20 will be postable. Really wish I had remembered the digital camera. I forgot how poor the picture quality was on the old 110 cameras.

Brent, how was the ride home? Hopefully it was a little shorter than the ride up.

Later,

Paul

Ya it was better, we still managed to make one wrong turn though, or actually missed a turn :-{} what is it with Mich road signs... .....

And the leak on the trailer seal some how seamed to get better with time, but still have to replace them. Oh and it stopped raining when we got back in WI
