History:

Well today is 1 year ago I picked up my 2011 Ram 3500 CC Dually Laramie 4*4 with 4. 10 gears. After factory ordering it the Friday after Thanksgiving in 2010.

Some random thoughts:

Besides oil, fluid, and filter changes have only had to have the Satalite Radio replaced under warranty. It was changing the presets on me to (all to channel184) not a big deal.

Just turned over 20,000 miles over the weekend

My drive to the office is 6 miles each way. Ya ya I know but almost every weekend we are hauling either the slide in truck camper or one of our trailers with toys or all the above at the same time. Also every Sunday we are in town we haul the church trailer that weighs about 8,000 pounds (meet at a local highschool).

In the last year the truck has been on two trips to Las Vegas, taken me riding quads to Southern Utah, firewood hauling, and countless camping and riding quad trips around Oregon, WA, and ID.

Modifications: front leveling kit, incab adjustable airbags, incab adjustable Rancho Shocks, Torklift tie down system and Super Hitch. Rigid Dually rear backup lights, KC front bumper Lightbar and 4 8'' KC lights (2 HID, and 2 130 Watt ones). The original General Tires are wearing down but I expect to break 30K with them this coming spring and get new tires intime for next fall/winter. Might go to 19. 5 rim and tire combo.

Glad I went with 4. 10 gears and dually. This is my second diesel dually truck for toy hauling and my work commute vehicle.

Love the Sat Radio.

Mileage report:

With 5,000 pound camper on, about 10/11

No camper but my enclosed trailer with quads 10/11

Camper plus trailer equals 9 maybe low 10.

Running empty HWY miles trip at close to speed limit 14/15

Mileage is based on running just over the speed limit even the 75 in ID and UT.

Mileage seems to be getting a little bit better now.

Still love the truck!

nice report. i have very similar truck. While i do love this truck alot especially the trans downshift/ex brake. I wish the mileage were better. I am seeing 13. 5 average driving around empty. I was hoping the detuned motor and urea would help out a bit more on that front. The other thing i notice is that when empty it feels like it is lacking power its kinda sluggish but with a BIG load on it or behind it, it seems to have endless power. So i am super impressed with it for work but just driving it around not much fun. Nothing like my 05.

Sounds like you have a C&C.

I have no complaints at all with our 2011 3500 DRW pickup with the 350/650 engine that was delivered on 9/11/10. It's a pleasure to drive empty or towing our 16K GVWR 5th wheel. The only extended trip mileage I've checked running empty was when the truck was new and I was putting on the 500 miles before towing - around 16. 5 MPG. When it was new, it got around 9. 5 MPG towing, but as it has passed the 6000 mile mark, that's improved to 10. 2 MPG over the same route at the same speed.

The truck has never been to the dealer for anything other than routine service. It's a world apart in creature comfort and features from my previous 2002 3500 Cummins HO/6-speed. Great truck so far!!!

yeah c&c. i prob screwed up buying that instead of the pick up version. i will never understand their statement of the detuned motor will help the fuel mileage. in talking with others it just dosent seem that way. funny thing is every time i get it into the 16mpg range it will regenerate itself down to the 13. 5. like it is programmed not to get any better mileage ;)

Yep cruise control set at 65 on the HWY here in Oregon I can barely make out 15mpg. Wind or rain puts it right into 14mpg... RPM in the 2011 are the same at 70 as my old 2005 truck with 3. 73 gears too.

Wow. I'm amazed that my 4x2 dually sounds like it's getting up to 1. 5 MPG better mileage than an equivalent 4x4 (16. 5 versus 15). As the statisticians would say, the measured sample size is statistically insignificant (IOW, don't take any of this to the bank!), but that's quite a difference.

I've always heard that a dually over a SRW takes about 1MPG away and a 4*4 over a 2*4 takes another 1MPG away. Then being a fully optioned out CrewCab and longbed takes another 1MPG away from being a Regular cab longbed or extended cab short box worktruck setup.

Good to hear all is well, I saw your post on RVnet. All the negatives I've read has put me on hold for my replacement Ram 3500 DRW.

If I had the option to wait it out a bit longer I would have. If I have heard right i think the next emissions tier is supposed to address mileage. I could be completely wrong but i really hope it is as 13 with my diesel is killing me. Funny thing is I have a 94 cf7000 that weighs 14k empty and 26k full. Combined average for this truck is 12mpg. this truck has a 5. 9 in it and it is a cab over so not aerodynamic at all. Other than the mileage though this truck is awesome the way all the systems work togeather.
