10' - 12' Fuel Filter

Hello All,
First post, Good info here. Quick question about fuel filters for the 10' - 12' CTD. I've been using Fleetguard FS43255. I want to start using the Nanonet filter and my filter is due for a change. I'm looking to protect my precious injectors with the best filter I can buy. Is the Mopar filter 6865608AA the same filter as the Fleetguard FS53000? I currently buy my filters from Geno's, but my local Dealer claims to have a better price, $20 cheaper. (These filters aren't cheap, but compared to injectors!!) The problem is with the Dealer not knowing what I'm trying to accomplish. I had to give him the part number of the new Mopar Filter. He then quoted me another price for a different filter, $1 difference? I'm only aware of 2 filters Mopar would have for the 10' - 12' CTD . The old filter# and the new#. I'm under the impression that once the current stock of filters are sold, they will all be the Nanonet type from Mopar and Fleetguard. I know that Mopar filters are made by Fleetguard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can get the new filter for the price of the old, then I'm going to stock up, plus I get a discount for Mopar. Thanks for your time.

68157291 is the part number on the Mopar Nanonet filters I bought from Geno's for my 2011. Looks like you are missing a digit in the Mopar number above, appears to be close to the pre-Nanonet filter.

Don't "stock up" too much. Fleetguard says there filters have a shelf life of only three years. Don't forget to check out your local Cummins Distributor for pricing on the FS53000 as well. David

MConyers, Thanks. I'll take all the part numbers to the Dealer and maybe teach the Parts Dept. the difference:-laf. Shadrach, Thanks. I wasn't aware of the 3 year shelf life. Stocking up to me is about 3 filters, I only drive the CTD about 15k a year. Enjoy the Holiday everyone!

Can you provide a link or source for the shelf life you posted? First I ever heard of a shelf life on filters.

From the Fleetguard website:

Guidelines for Returned Products:

1. Each returned item must be in saleable condition (i.e., free of rust, dents, dust, scratches, etc.) and must not be an obsolete product. Product that cannot be resold will be scrapped with no credit issued.

2. Returned items must not be over three (3) years of age, or they will be scrapped with no credit issued. Below are some of the most common date codes used on Fleetguard products:

Example One: 11015-160613
This five digit date code indicates that the product was produced in 2011 (11) on the fifteenth day of the year - January 15 (015). The remaining numbers refer to plant codes and may be printed before the actual date code

Example Two: 216
This three digit date code indicates that the product was produced during week 21 - between May 21 and May 27 (21) in 2006 (6)

Example Three: 621
This three digit date code indicates that the product was produced in 2006 (6) during week 21 - between May 21 and May 27 (21)

Thanks Shadrach, I learned something new. I had four of the new fuel filters and just installed two ( front and rear) a couple of weeks ago. I wish I had known about the dates because the two filters I still have will expire before I need them. One expires in 6 months and the other early next year. I won't take any chances and use them after the date they expire, they're much cheaper than injectors.

I'm guessing oil filters don't expire. I got some left overs from a friend who had a 12 valve years ago.

According to FLG it ALL filters. Of course it your engine, you can do what you want. Some people even use Frum brand I have actually talked customers out of buying a case of filters because I know they will be back in a couple of years wanting to return them because they don't fit their new truck. Had one fellow come in here with his "spare" fuel filter and wanted to exchange it for a newer version. It looked like it had been rolling around in the box for several years. If you carry a spare filter please use it for the next change and put the "new one" under the seat.

I would have to assume that the reason for shelf life would be that since they are not shrink wrapped in plastic, they would draw moisture from humidity and and degrade the paper part of the element.
