Just bought a '97 4x4 w/215 pump and will be selling my '96 auto. With the upgrades mentioned, how much rwhp/torque should I expect and what's the driveability like from those who have similar setups? How about towing with the stock turbo? Thanks.

You sound like my twin.

Just upgrade the turbo to the PDR HX40.

At first when I had my current setup ... the truck ran like a bat out of Hell. Now it seems to be a little tired.

I am blowing white smoke (and black) at startup and I think my timing has slipped. I'll have to get that checked out (damm $$$$).

Just my suggestion is to put in a Fuel Pressure gauge. I have one at the bleader valve on the fuel filter head along with a grease hose. I have 32-34 psi at idle and 38-40 psi at 2000+ rpm.

YOU WILL NEED A NEW CLUTCH if you don't already have it on the truck. My original one blew up on the test run with all the mods. Originally the guys at Blue Chip in Southern NH said I had around 400-420 hp and over 800 ft/lb. ... that was over a year ago. Now the truck feels sluggish ... just wish I had more time and knowhow to fix it up.

Good luck.

I would say between 325 and 400 depending on setting of plate. Don't forget the stock clutch "should" hold the 10 plate & gov springs but it will hate the 370's, so a clutch will be needed if you go injectors to. I run a PDR-40, 5" ex, ats, and afe to help air in and out and it still gets to hot for me. With a stock turbo I would think towability will suffer but I don't know how much, empty WOW it will put a smile on your face, could go into much more detail but would take a whole page so feel free to p. m. me if you like. A good friend of mine put down 393 and 950torque with his 97. 10 plate and 370's only. The GSK doesn't make an effect on peak HP or Torque.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's my plan for 400 rwhp:

1. gauges

2. 3k gsk

3. #10

4. PDR-40

5. 4" exhaust

6. clutch

7. 370's

What size housing should I get on the PDR-40?

OT here I come ;)

Thanks for the feedback. Here's my plan for 400 rwhp:

You'll get your 400. I dynoed over 400 with my current setup and plate full forward. Here's a link to the numbers I ended up with. I need to play with my plate position a little more and crank up the water meth and I should be in for some better numbers.

Call Piers and ask what housing they recommend. They suggested the 16 for me, I was told the 18 was more for pulling.

I have #10 plate, 3k govener springs, and EDM Mach2's (same hp as 370's). At 6000' elevation I'm about 325hp. Not enough air, have to back the fuel plate and star wheel down.

If your at sea level or there abouts; and you get a PDR HX-40 16, you'll get about 35 more hp. just on air.

I'll bet you'll be at 415-425 with that set up. Crazy fun. :D
