I have a 95 Ram that I have been using a #5 Plate in. I decided to go to a #10 Plate instead. By leaving the governor lever in the same place as for the #5, the rig just doesn't have any power. On the #5 plate, I had the lever slightly below the point on the plate that protrudes out towards the windshield end of the plate. Or more correctly going up from the very bottom of the plate about 1/4". The #10 is cut completely oposite from the #5 and I'm not sure where to adjust to. The #10 is cut in the following manner. From the very bottom of the plate, the angle goes towards the front of the vehicle and up about 5/16" and then angles back towards the cab ( __< ) Where do I need to adjust the governor lever in relationship to the angle on the #10 plate? Thanks

The smaller the number the more power. A #10 is less power than a #5. If you want to increase your power for a '95 auto trans you have to go to a #4. You reduced your power with that plate swap. The amount of power a plate produces varies according to the pump it's installed in.

Thanks Joe;

I understand that changing to a #10 is a decrease in horsepower, however the kind of power loss I'm talking is the darn thing can't even pull itself out of the shop. The reason I'm going to the #10 is that because I'm using a 3K GSK. Piers believes I will actually have better performance than the #5. I had a #4 for awhile, but the high EGT's and the smoke was more than I wanted to deal with. I'm just looking to see if anyone can give me an idea as to where the lever needs to be in relationship to the plate. Thanks

Thanks again for the idea. I'm not doing very well on explaining the issue I'm dealing with. I was aware of Piers site and did go to it just to see, however looking at the #6 plate in his instructions, the point of the #6 points towards the cab, and on the #10, it's a mirror image, and cuts back into the plate towards the front. This angle begins at the very bottom of the plate and slopes upward and towards the front. This angle rises in height about 5/16" and then reverses angle and slopes upwards and towards the cab of the truck. At this point I think I need to compare with the stock plate and see if that helps any. Thanks

#10 plate

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SET THE CAM LEVER AT THE TIP ON THAT #10 AND BE FINE THERE. WHEN YOU PUT IT TOGETHER DID YOU TAKE IT OUT AND ROAD TEST IT WAS IT A DOG ON ACCELERATION. I WOULD SUGGEST CHECKING THE BOOST LINE GOING TO YOUR AFC HOUSING AND MAKE SURE IT'S TIGHT AND DOESN'T HAVE A PIN HOLE IN IT. WHEN THE GOV LEVER HANGS UP YOU WILL GET A BIG SURGE OF POWER WHEN IT FINALLY CLEARS THE NOSE ON THE CAMPLATE. JUST MY $. 02 CENTS WORTH. :confused:

Which tip are you referencing. The one at the very bottom edge of the plate, or the the point where after the angle has gone forward and then back towards the cab? Thanks

I have never changed the rocker height adjustment on mine. The #10 should work well with the stock height position. The 10 is stronger than the 4 or 5 in the torque rpm region, but not as strong at high rpm, with stock rocker height and with a governor spring kit. It is designed to trim fueling a bit on the 215 hp pump to help control egt. A major reason folks like the 10 in the other pumps is the higher fueling at the 1000-2000 rpm region, and its better shape when a governor spring kit is installed but the rocker height is left stock.

Thanks Joseph; I decided to compare the stock plate and the #10. Since the bottom of each plate is the same, it only reasoned that if a lever adjustment was needed, it would be minor. I went ahead and adjusted the lever to the bottom of the #10. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, but it at least sounds better than it did. Thanks to all that responded.
