What kind of power does the #10 plate in the stock position make in a 97 180 (auto) truck?Right now i have a #8 in the stock location & it seems like it runs a little hot on the top end (1350 @ 2700 rpm). The truck is stock except for the #8 & the boost elbow. Boost at wot is 35 psi. I think the 8 plate is rated at 230 horse & 600 torque on the 180 pump. I would like a little better bottom end power & a little cooler on the top. This truck has been converted from an auto to a 5 speed with a southbend clutch so im not worried about damaging anything. Truck tows heavy & i will be installing a 16cm housing to help control egt's. What kind of egt reduction can i expect from the 12 cm housing to a 16?Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

from what i understand towing with a 16 and standard can be a little laggy i know you have weighed you options from 14 to 16. just for my sake b/c i am looking at this mod to why are you going with the 16. I think a number 10 plate would work great. You can see my mods and i dont have any problems with egts b/c of my right foot.

Look at the 14cm housing again. . of course if depends what you want to do after the #10

Well the way it is now if i get into a long steep hill & have to drop to 4th & buzz the rpm's up to 2500 & above the egt's quickly rise to 1350 & i have plenty of throttle left but i cant use it due to the heat. If i keep the rpm's low the temps never rise above 1200. Right now the way the truck is set up it runs great but i need to reduce the egt's at least 150 degrees & i was told the 16 was the way to go. Will the #10 run hotter than the #8 in the upper rpm's as this is where the egt's get out of control?I do not want to sacrifice power & i do not want to have to let off the throttle to control the temps. I want a setup that will not go above 1200 degrees at full throttle & still make decent power & i think with the 16cm housing the way the truck is setup now i think i can get the egt's down to 1200 @ wot. I thought about the 14cm wastegated housing but its a little pricey for me. I have already set the timing at 15. 5 & that seemed to help some but not at 2500 + rpm. Hopefully Jim Fulmer will hop in hear & give me some advice. Thanks Cat.

Kurt the #10 should be a little less EGT's on the topend as it de-fuels more in that area, if it's setup right it's hard pull will be from 1800-2400 the start pulling back fuel a little from there. A truck I'm about to work on makes 300 hp with a #10 and 3K's and his EGT's are around 1200, this is with a stock housing. The 10 would be better suited for your application then you could slide it back a tad if the temps were still a little too high... ... . it responds well to adjustments.

I like a 16 non gated housing but some want a turbo to spool at 1000 rpms and support 500 hp... ... ... it's not going to happen... ..... no bull just facts!

Thanks Jim,

What can i expect from this 180 pump with a #10 plate, stock gov springs, stock injectors & the 16cm housing & the plate maybe a little forward just enough to keep the egt's in check with max power?Any idea on horsepower & temps. Like i said before i want the most usable power with 1200 degree max egt's & im not to concerned about lag as this truck is a stick & its a tow vehicle not a drag racer. Thanks.

Hey Kurt, long time, no see. Get to pull in Milledgeville?

I never had an issuue with EGTs and having a #10 (stock position) as my only fuel mod at the time. Never saw over 1000* in the manifold. Never towed heavy, so I probably won't be of much help there.

I went from a stock HX-35 to the PDR 40 w/gated 16. With having a stock auto, lag wasn't to awful bad, but I think you'd hate it without more fuel. Ran that way for several weeks 'til I got the injectors. The 370s helped to wake it up. Still some lag, but not bad. With the way I'm setup right now, I've never seen over 1200*.

Your turbo may not like the #10. Pegged my 30# gauge, so I don't know how high the boost got. The turbo bearings didn't like it. They didn't last to long after (excessive end play, none before).

Yeah i got to make a exabition pull & pulled it out the end. I have ran a 40/16 on a 24 valve & i didnt think the lag was to bad with that so i think the 35/16 will be better than the 40. Im hoping that the #10 with the 16cm housing will be a decent spooling combination with a little trial & error with plate adjustment & star wheel tinkering im hoping to make decent power with low egt's. I know its not going to spool like a stock 12cm turbo but how bad could it possibly be. Some people say the 16 spools good & cools off egt's & some people say its a lag pig & runs hotter. I dont know who to believe so im gunna buy it & play with it & see what happens. Just like i always do ;) .

Part of the reason I have more lag, is that I have the AFC spring tighter than when the engine was stock. It is just 'til I get a BOMBed auto. Trying to limit the fuel off the line so I don't slip the transmission. It'll still set you back in the seat though. :D

97' Auto with a #10, 4K's, 370's, Stock 35/21, Exhaust, Water/Meth, I figure the power is 400 on #2 and 450 with water, it might be a little more but there is more fuel in the bag..... fyi.
