I dont know which cam plate I should get.

Would I need to replace my cluch immediately, or could it wait?

I dont beat on my truck, so I'm assuming it's fairly healthy.

I would like to get it timed, and the 3K GSK eventually.

I tow very little, but I guess it has to be taken into consideration.

Help me decide.

TIA

Eric

The 11 is GREAT and safe. You'll also love the 3k kit. Might as well get the afc spring kit while you're at it - better and smoother smoke control. Do the Piers rocker adjustment!Craig

Just saw , you have 370s. My clutch is doing fine, but you'll probably smoke yours!

Which plate?

Eric,

I have the #11 plate with 370's and I dynoed at MM at 366. 5 HP. Your clutch will be smoked with either plate. Mark Chapple told me that the #10 plate would smoke like a freight train with the 370's. ;)

The 11 will push the egts to the limit and work the clutch to near its limit too. Consider saving for a 16 cm2 turbine housing for egt's and a better clutch. The 10 pushes way past the limits, but a 16 usually keeps egt's more or less in check. Yep it can smoke, that is what you need more air system work for! Actually you can cut the smoke down a lot with afc adjustments.

Eric,

To save your clutch the only plate that you could run at first would be the #12. I already had the #11 plate and when I added the 370s and the 16CM2 housing it slipped the clutch I had at the time(Luk Pro Gold). I would do the GSK first then after the clutch was healthy then I'd go for the #11 and the 16 CM2.

Dude I feel for you (kind a:D ) The bombing bug had gotten hold of you:--)

do it right the first time!

you know your gonna want more .....

dont waste your time and money :D

i recomend you save up some$ and buy the real deal!

you would actually save money and time in the long run!

my sig shows as much as i could afford in parts

I did my own install and tune. ;)

Eric,

Your truck and mine are very similiar in set-up (same year and config. ). I have a #11 equivalent. Your driving style and use sound very similar to mine.

I started with the plate in stock position, AFC spring and boost elbow, and improved air filter in the fall of 2000. Last fall I added 4 inch exhaust, the 370s, and the BHAF. Killed my clutch in late December. I'd recommend the #11. But you'd better be prepared to do the clutch soon!

Eric,

I installed the #11 in my 96 last weekend. Truck has 93000 miles, some towing, etc. Light foot, no clutch slippage. Heavier foot, well, the clutch isn't gonna last long. But I like that plate!!!

Thanks for all the info guys.

One more question, how does the power curve for the two plates compare?

I'd like some more low end grunt. :D

Oh... . and the smoke would be fine... . :D

Eric

#10's got the grunt!

Eric,

I use the #10 with a 4K gov. spring kit and 370's and let me say its a "grunt" youll never forget. i also tow 10k lbs on the weekends and have no egt problems, i just use my foot wisely and can criuse up ANY hill over 65mph below 1100 deg'.

dont skimp on any parts you buy to save a buck or two. just plan ahead. I suggest you call piers or joe. They will confirm the 10 plate is a nice cut!;)

almost forgot did you do the clutch yet?

thats a big no no to skimp on. .

No I havent done the cluch yet. I'm hoping Piers has a sale on them at a better time than last time. I had just spent a bunch of $$$ on "toys" when they went on sale.

Eric

BTT

One last call on this question..... does anyone have a torque/HP chart comparing the two plates?

I do plan on the GSK (in addition to the cluch), not sure of 3K or 4K yet. I got to wait to see what goes on sale! :D

Eric

If ya wanna wait a month I can tell ya what a #10 plate with 370's and a 3K GSK puts out on a DynoJet.

I can tell you that it wiped up a 89 Mustang GT convertible Sunday afternoon. :) :D

And if you can wait until after about June 15th, I can tell you what a #11 equivalent (Bully Dog), 370s, 3K GSK, plus misc. will do on a Mustang dyno. See my sig. for other goodies that may have an influence.

BTW: Last year, my plate with AFC spring kit and boost elbow, tuned and timed pump, and only an Amsoil foam filter (stock exhaust, turbo, injectors, governor, etc. ) dyno'd 247 at the rear wheels on the same Mustang dyno.

Dynojet results

#11 TST plate, 370 injectors, AFC spring kit, 4K gov. springs, stock turbo --- 366. 5 HP. Oh, yeah, one more thing: chrome valve covers!:D

Jay, feel free to post the numbers, but I think Curtis's setup will be closer to what I will end up doing. You have too much $$$ there. :p

radixr, thanks for the numbers. :D

JJW-ND,

Running hard through the gears empty, the SPA usually records a peak just over 1300*. Last weekend I was pulling a boxy 5-6,000# trailer and decided to race... er... accelerate in 5th from 60 to 80-85 (I beat the 4 wheeler) and EGT peaked a bit over 1500*.

The 16cm helped, I'd guess 100* - 150*. It's hard to know for sure, too many other variables. Do have more lag off the line, but I don't drag race - just try to shut them down on the roll.

I'd like to get a different turbo to help with temps. and lag so I can add 370s but need income coming in first. BTW - got two interviews tomorrow and Friday. Say some prayers for me - wish me luck.
