I been looking at Mickey Thompson Classic II's, going to put new rim on this next year, just wanted to know if I can put 16" x 10" wide rim on without putting in a lift kit. If I have to put in a lift kit, what is recommended? Not sure I want to put a lift kit in because of towing, might have to stay with the 8" rims.

What do you think?

BIG BOB, what size tire do you intend to mount to the 16x10s? Ten inch wide wheels are too wide for 285s and the 3. 54 axle ratio will prove to be a stone dog with 315s. Did you mean 16. 5x10 wheels with 35/12. 50/16. 5 tires? Will any of these combinations be acceptable to you for towing? The 35/12. 50s will turn your Ram into a slug with 3. 54s... the up side is, the 10" wide wheels work very well with 12. 50 wide tires. I've used 10" wide wheels and 33/12. 50 and 35/12. 50 tires on another 4x4 with excellent results. The 9. 75" wide wheels also work well with the 12. 50 wide tires. The 8" wheels are a little narrow (IMO).

You will also need a front end lift with 315s or 35/12. 50s.

Also, keep in mind the M/T Classic IIs are cast, not forged like the Classics or Challengers.

I ran 33/12. 50-16. 5 with 16. 5x9. 75 wheels on a 2500 4x4 with no lift. Never touched the fenders.

FWIW, Banks had a truck out at May Madness this year with 35's and they claim no lift. Said it wouldn't rub unless you wheeled it real hard. Driving on the street was fine.

No you will not need a lift. A buddy of mine had 10's w/33's on a half ton. I have 16X10's on my 1st Gen. and the 285's will mount on 10" rims. I went with the 285's because they are about the closest size to 33X12. 50's. 33's are hard to find in 16".

John,

My mind isn't made up yet. I have thought about either 305/70R16 or 33x12. 50R16. 5. It seems that the 16. 5 don't have the selection of manufactures and tires. I don't want them any taller for 2 reasons, 1. towing both power and tow height, and 2. turning my Ram in to a dog. It was bad enough going from the stock 245/75R16 to the 285/75R16. I will keep the 285/75R16 for winter.

How much will the 9. 75" or 10" rim and tires stick out past the stock wheel wells?

Will I have to put fender flares to cover the outside edge of tire and rims?

I am not for sure what the life length is but I was at a local 4x4 center and they have a set of Super Swamper radial's that are made for a 16x10 rim however they are the same hidth size as a 245 series tire. Very impressive and aggressive. Also I am not sure what the load rating would be. Email me for further questions and phone number of the 4x4 shop. (very nice selection)

My 33x12. 5x16. 5 BFG muds on 16. 5x9. 75 Eagle 589s fit well and ride well, they have 26k miles and are still in great shape. I have no lift, but probably will put a leveling kit on because my winch pulled the front down an inch.

Super Swampers are great off road, but are just about the worst street tire you can buy. While the radials are better than the bias, they are still crummy on the highway, wear poorly, are a death trap on ice, are noisy, and generally squirly. The only pavement benefit they have is that they look cool.

Pete

PS, by Blazer has a vibration limited top speed of 60-65 with the swampers, but easily cruises 95 with 35" BFG mudders.
