Has anyone used 10 wt. non detergent oil as an fuel additive for lubricity for the ve pump? A friend of mine says it should be the perfect diesel additive. Personally, i have been using the 2 cycle super tech tcw3 oil from Wall Mart, but i notice it might be a little to thick for winter. I notice the 10 wt oil seems thinner. What do you guys think?

Can't say for certain which may be better, but my gut says you're probably better off with a product designed to be burned. Fewer deposits, ash free.

I don't think a quart of 2 stroke to 25 or more gallons of diesel is going to thicken it too much. If I were afraid of that I think I'd cut it with some water clear kerosene. About 4 oz of that ought to thin out what would be left of a quart of the 2 stroke -- 24 oz of oil, nearly 4 oz of naptha (lighter fluid) and 4 oz of kerosene should make a good mix.

On mixing oils or any liquids, they can separate, often with undesirable results, why pay so much for an engine that is so highly stressed to extract the utmost HP out of the lowest Btu fuel? you have a Bargain to start with don't mess it up. Free Advice is not worth a great lot.

I think you are fine either way as i do either or on my deisel stuff.

How ever 10wt seems to be spendy . On the 2 stroke a quart to 25 gals of fuel is rather rich mix . Renember the idea is to lube the pump not make the fuel rich . , id run only around a pint to that much i run a quart to a 75 to 100

gals of deisel if you run into some old transmission fluid like type F before the friction modifyers of now days fluid that works as well . If you want more cetane in the fuel add a cetane addative how ever i dont run this every tankfull on my tractors once a year they get low hours and my pick every other month or so

Would 2-stroke oil designed for snowmobiles be more suitable for winter use in diesel fuel than the stuff made for boats? Its probably going to cost more though because i don,t see it at wall mart in super tech. I was using mmo until i seen a study that showed a mixture of mmo and ultra low fuel lubricated worse than the fuel alone.

I would use the two stroke oil as it burns cleaner and will not coke up the injectors or carbon up the cylinders.

I agree with the pint to a tank method. I have started using super tech in my '07, 5. 9 and it holds 34 gallons.

One pint to 25 gallons is a 200 to 1 ratio. I don't think that it would affect your fuel viscosity in any way that you would notice. What I have READ (you can take that with a grain of SALT) that guys are seeing a little better fuel mileage.

I think the VE pump would be happier with a small amount of lube oil in the fuel seeing that the fuel is its only source for lubrication.

rlyons- I posted the results of that study either here or on 1stGen. At least til it got to making no difference, and then just named the stuff that made it worse.

I wouldnt burn 10w oil- like TAbbott said, I'd rather put something meant to be burned in the tank.

On the mixture ratio of the 2 stroke oil, how strong are you guys mixing it? I tried some at an ouncer per gallon, and actually LOST MPG, so I went back to straight Howe's Meaner Cleaner, or whatever it's called.

I use either 10wt Non detergent or ashless 2 stroke, 1 pint to 96 ounces of PS, then 10-12 oz per fill up. With the ratio to the diesel mix 10 wt is fine. A little extra lube for the pump is a GOOD thing. :D

This is my take; I'm lazy. I just don't get excited anymore. The factory op manual tells us that it be ok to mix used engine oil to the fuel burned. I don't recall the ratio. If you like, e-mail me and I'll lOOk it up... ... ... .

So, what I do; I dump a bunch of PS (white or grey bottle stuff)and 2-cycle oil into the tank. I don't care. I just pour a bunch of it in there. I figgure I'm running 8oz of PS and 8oz of lube oil to each 15 gal or so of diesel.

My truck(s) seem content.
