Has anyone checked out the extended range oil injector system Cummins offers? It has an fresh oil holding tank that adds small amounts of new oil to the engine while at the same time removing used oil and adding it to the fuel to be burned. They claim 100k+ oil changes with filter changes in-between. You have no waste oil to deal with. Seems like it could be cheaper than synthetic oil and oil analysis intervals could be increased since you are adding fresh oil. When I read about it it was being developed for the B series, but I haven't heard about it since.

I remember that, where did it go?
Sounds pretty slick. I wonder what the emissions effects would be?
Just for fun, think of what kind of catastrophe this could lead to!

According to my calculations to change 11qts of oil @ 5k miles @20 mpg there would be . 0022qts of used oil blended per gallon of fuel(someone check my math)I don't think this amount would changes the emissions much. I'm sure the used oil must be highly filtered.

Cummins made a whole lot of noise with that system when they introduced the Signature 600 a few years back. CAT has been using a similar system for years. Again, the way this whole thing works is with high oil capacity on 14+ liter engines.

I have read about this system several years ago. If I remember correctly, it was called (CORS)Continueous Oil Recirculating System. It was in the larger engines.

Illflem:
I use the Amsoil duel bypass and up to now I have have had no oil discard, other than the filter. I check the oil once a week , add what little may be nessesary, maybe a pint in 3 to 4 weeks, then what the filter needs when time comes. I feel somewhat like a nut because I had just installed the Geno's easy drain plug with the tube. Don't need it now. I do the sample at 8000 miles and just drive along. My truck now has 179,000 on it and pulls like a draft horse. I'm sure the Cummins system works but what is the need?
This works for me. Good luck.

as i recall it was for the industrial engines. also, you'd be surprised how little oil it takes to produce a lot of smoke... . or enough to foul a smog test (IF it ever comes to that).

i had a 1985 BMW K100RS (motorcycle) it was an inline four set on it's side. when on the side stand a very little bit of oil would seep into the cylinders. was as if i were laying down a good ol' fashioned smoke screen for a while after start up. when checked oil level never changed.

go figure.

peter,

The "K-Bike fogging" was putting teh oil directly into the cumbustion chamber. With the Cummins, I believe they dilute it with the #2 diesel before it ever enters the engine.
The K-Bikes WERE useful in campgrounds with lots of flying insects..... : )

I talked to Cummins about adding used motor oil to the Diesel, and they stated that you can go up to a 5% mix of old oil in the diesel. This is alot higher concentration than this system. I would love to have a system that keeps a fresh supply of oil feeding the engine.

Yellow Frieght Systems used to have a handy machine that would take the used oil, filter it and pump it back into the tanks to be burned with the #2. I don't know if they still do this or not but I like the idea except for the possibility of added junk going through the pump/injectors like Mad Max stated.

I believe cummins system was/is called centinnel(sp). The last time I talked to them about it (Mid America truck show 98 I think) it was still new and only available on M-11 and larger engines. I don't know if they've extended its application down to B or C series yet.

Can't resist replying to this. I sometimes use an improved oil recirculation system. I have a sure flow pump in a homemade pre lube system. About every thousnad + miles while my wife shops at Wallmart or Sams, I pump out 4 qrts. used oil into a nice clean rotella T gallon jug. I then pour in 4 qrts of new rotella T and place the empty containedrin the back of the truck for the next rotation. The used oil in the clean gallon container I casually place in the parking lot a couple of spaces from where I'm parked. Generally the 2nd person walking past concludes this is a free gallon of oil that someone left in the lot and quickly tucks it away in their vehicle. This is the ultimate in oil recycling. Hope to see you all in Wallmart or Sams parking lot some day, haha.

forgot to add to above post--If I have a hard pull ahead I add "clean"drain oil to fuel--ABOUT 3 QTS. PER TANK --NOEXTRA SMOKE

I'll take my Amsoil by-pass system along with the periodic oil analysis every 10,000 miles any day. I now have 128,000 + miles having changed the oil only once at 105,000 to install the "single" by-pass and the series 3000 5W-30 oil. At least with this system and the oil analysis, I know exactly what's happening inside my engine.

I can't believe that you would post and brag about adding oil to the ground water in your home state of NM? What if someone runs over the gallon and it spills? this will eventually end up in your drinking water.
I hope that you find somethig better to do during your RV'ing retirement?
Just for your knowledge, most part's houses will recycle this oil so that it does not end up in the water table.
You're proud of this, huh?
