Here I am

$100/barrel oil

Getting rid of daytime running lights?

Stanadyne dealer?

The soundbite on MSNBC tonight about oil reaching $100/barrel has me a bit nervous. If diesel hits $4. 50-$5. 00 per gallon it will no longer be economically feasable to drive my truck and we will have to switch to a VW Passat TDI or Toyota Prius Hybrid and probably give up RVing too.

I refuse to spend $200 once or twice a week to fill a fuel tank!

This sucks. What say you guys?

Im with ya there. I dont think I will give up the truck. But it will difinately put a damper on how much I drive it including rv trips.

I read that yesterday and was pisd off. I think the whole trading gas on the stock market needs to stop. it is driving up the price to the point of no return.

When gas first hit $1/gal in the 70's, many af my friends swore they would never pay more than $1. 50, they would quit driving, sell their car, etc.

They didn't. Instead, they cut down driving for a while and gradually got over it.

I guess I'll just P and moan, cut down driving when possible and fork over.

Since it's a free country and our government allows free complaint, I'll continue to do so. When rape is enevitable, relax and emjoy it.

Hold out for the V-dub if possible. I was heading northbound out of Oxnard Ca on US 101 on 12-25. Strong Santa Ana winds were blowing. Every car with the exception of two Prius's bombed up that grade. The Prius's were condemned to the right lane and making maybe 55 mph,if that. They should have had their flashers on. :{ Consider a used Accord or Camry and keep the truck for wheeling or vacations.

Tell you what fellas, I'm not worried about buying fuel for my truck. What I'm worried about is what it's going to do to the price of everything I NEED to live. Groceries, supplies, anything and everything we use EVERY DAY is affected by the cost of diesel fuel. There's nothing out there that's not transported by truck, train, plane, or boat and they're all fueled by some form of petroleum distillate (diesel fuel). I'm afraid that the fill-up is going to be the least of our worries. :(

hate to be a bummer, but if diesel hits $4. 50-$5. 00/gal, it might actually still be feasable to drive your truck because of the huge depreciation hit you'll be facing. Not sure if you guys have noticed but the prices on used diesel trucks (namely Dodge 12v and 3rd gen because those are the ones I really watch) have come down a lot, even in the last 6 months.

I've been seriously fighting the urge to buy a new(to me) toy because the prices are getting good, but I don't want to be stuck with a burden if fuel prices skyrocket

The price has already broken my back. Truck remains parked all but 1 day per week. :( :( :(

At least I have the luxury of parking it. Guys who earn their pay with the truck are really in trouble.

I only drive my 3500 when a trailer needs to move. Currently driving our 96 Regal 3. 8. Gets 29 mpg.

Where is the oil from the Alaskan pipe line being used?

Chances are this is what I'd do--just keep the truck for heavy lifting and get a VW for daily driving duties.

Judging from the responses thus far, I'd have to say I see the laws of "supply and demand" at work here. The price is getting to the point where I'm going to reduce my demand for diesel fuel. And like many of you, I'm parking the truck and driving my ol-Miata more lately.

just makes me feel like somone is fining me more and more everyday for driving a vehicle, whether it be diesel or gas.

My truck sits in the garage every other day because short trips w/pos ulsd fuel at 11-12 mpg at $3. 50plus a gal bites the pocketbook. The other crook in the outlay is the insurance companies. Whether you drive 75 miles a week or 7500 the insurance costs the same. I can only drive one vehicle at a time so I could never figure how they get by charging you almost double every time you add a vehicle. That multiple vehicle discount they give you won't buy a cup of coffee these days. I'd take the insurance off the truck and park it but can't use the cycle as the roads here are sloppy, snow and salt covered and get slippery. Looks like the bicycle is going to get some extra use. What irks me is I'm trying to fully retire. Doesn't look like that is gonna happen. I have a cabin up north and can't afford the fuel to go up there and use it. And what pees me off is all these politicians simply ignore and refuse to talk about the number one problem in this country, the out of control cost of fuel and energy!

If congress would grow some stones and *say* they are going to allow drilling in ANWAR, off the CA coast, and in the gulf (next to the Chinese rigs), the price would drop. The OPEC nations don't want the competition; they'll drop prices to keep the lion's share of the market. We don't even have to drill there, just make the bluff. Of course, now I've given the plan away and it won't work!:-laf The other plan would be to charge Mexico 1 barrel per day per illegal. That's about 20,000,000 barrels a day. That should help!

yea after punching out some numbers i have pretty much gave up on the idea of a more fuel efficent car after figureing the cost of the car, insurance, and fuel costs. it would take way to long to even recoupe the money i would have to dump into it to make it cheaper than just driving the truck. i'm not planning on getting another vehicle unless it is a very cheap one.

Why would they want too? Think about it, EVERYTHING you buy, is effected by the price of Diesel. Everything gets shipped, the producers/manufactures are not gonna take a hit. So they raise their prices to acommodate their new fuel bill. The wholesalers and shippers aren't gonna take a hit so the price goes up again. The retailer ain't gonna take it so they add a little more and WE the consumer pay higher prices for everything we need/use/want. Now you ask how this all ties together... ... ... TAXES... . Yep Sales Tax is why the gov, any and all, Local State or Fed, Could Care Less that fuel prices have more than doubled in the last 5 years. They could Care Less that the price of everything we buy has doubled in the last 5 years. Sales Tax revenue has also doubled and they did not have to do a thing but let it happen. JMHO
