Competition NW Dyno Day... Big Dogs will be there...

Did anybody receive the new issue of Off Road magazine (March 2005)? On the cover is Mad Dog's Cummins powered F-350. The article starts on Page 50. The article claims 1000 HP & 1750 ft. /lbs. of torque from a Piers' built 12 valve with twin turbos by Turbo Auto Diesel (136 psi of boost), custom Hypermax intercooler, Jeff Prince/Industrial Injection injectors and a Bosch P7100 race pump. This is were these magazine writers need to really check their facts, "Edge Products supplied the box that controls everything. " How is a power box used to control anything on a mechanical 12 valve? The truck is owned by Richard "Mad Dog" Madsen Of Springdale, Utah. Another misprint in the article is "Richard's best 1/2 mile time so far is 10. 59 seconds at a 130 mph. " I'm assuming they meant 1/4 mile time. Is it me, or is a 130 mph a little slow for a 10. 59 1/4 mile? I'm not dissing the guy, it looks like an awsome well built truck. Does anybody know anything about this truck? Maybe Piers can provide some info on this truck. The article states that this is his daily driver. It just seems that these magazine writers get things a little exaggerated when it comes to diesel pickup trucks. Thumbs up to Richard Madsen for a powerful daily driver/racer. -Glen

I saw this truck at an event up here in Seattle it blew a boot at 100PSI but for the first 50feet it was making allot of power. Sorry I can not provide any more information other then it kicks as for a big truck...

We have all seen it before. The magizine writter folk indulge themselves abit.

I did see his truck put down 802 @ Piers get together this last September, and that was just #2 as I understood it.

As far as the boost goes they notched the truck frame to fit the bottom charger. They also blew the discharge elbow right off the top charger, and it was pretty well fastened on there with a little turnbuckle deal and bailing wire.

Take what they write in them magizines as you will. Its a cool truck all the same. jmo

I have heard the boost numbers are true. Also, don't forget the motor was sold and replaced and I don't think it has been publicly dynoed since. I believe he is running 4. 10 gears also. So his top end mph is probably limited

Richard has dynoed his new engine several times in public. I was there for two of them once at ATS in Denver and at Piers dyno day where he ran 802hp on diesel only (a feat that Joe swears no truck but his has done  ) He runs a BB B1 combo and is very fast. Congratulations on the cover Richard!!!!!!!

Here is the thread about his dyno run at ATS before truck fest in denver. It's one fast ride no two ways about it. I can believe the magazine writers are so ignorant. 1/2 mile times? Doesn't anybody proof read any more? And to think I pay $12 a year for that rag. Can't believe any thing they print anymore.

Pretty sure MD has twins and Joe says he's the only one that has done it with a single turbo.

This is a quote from a post by Joe on another thread.

I do my own work and found it worthwhile. Twins may be good, but with a ported head, Sickly got 800 on #2 with one turbo. The guys with twins haven't been able to do that without drugs.

Your right Richard has twins but Joe says even that is not good enough now

800 with one turbo is impressive but.......

I'm sure others could also put down 800 or more with one big turbo, but who likes turbo lag?

"Tempest in a teapot"

"Much ado about nothing" #@$%!

"Speed costs - how fast do ya wanna go?" ;)

Richard has put lotsa $$$ and effort into his truck - it IS fast and powerful (saw it on the dyno at MM year before last), and something many other could duplicate IF they wanted to spend the cubic dollars it takes to get there.

My last dyno number was at 797 on #2 only and 848 with water/meth if you add the 7% correction factor of Vegas that was on my dyno sheet from MM 04", of course this is my 17/19 MPG daily driver using a 130+K stock block motor with no aftermarket cam... . new or reground.

Hope next year will net me a little more with the new short block sitting the in the garage, proper cam, proper pistons, ect, ect, but then I'm just a little ole' blue collar Navy dude with limit funds and knowledge.

You think money is all it takes; well you’re very mistaken, it takes a lot of knowledge, and ability to ascertain the facts and apply them to the project, making the right decisions to make the outcome favorable.

For you to thank all it take is money to get to that point, where people give you the parts and little inside deals , if you had the same pile of parts each of the top people on here started with , where do you think you would be. You are so sure that you could do the same, well I invite you to get off the computer and DO IT!!!!!! What FLETCHER , MAD DOG , HOSS , and FULMER , among other people with out big resources have begin with , and now have accomplished is something you haven’t

There already is an example that if you had all the money you want to spend and all the so-called knowledge you would be the top of the heap. Well Mega Mental money and hype didn’t prevail did it?

UMMmmm - exactly WHAT part of "$$$ and *EFFORT*" confused ya buddy?

Do ya suppose, just MAYBE the "effort" part is the experimentation and research to reach the goal?

Sorry to have confused ya... ;)

(maybe a little less morning coffee would help settle yer nerves?)
