2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 100W Backup Lights Wiring

I have thought about getting those white night things to put on my truck but they look like they are in the way and I have 2 good driving lights that I am not using. So now I want to build my own "White Knights". I am going to mount a double throw switch in the cab to control the deal. Then I will mount a relay at the back of the truck to switch the lights on and off. I should be able to find the backup wire in the cab... . I hope, I may need a little help here... . and then I want to be able to turn them on independent of the backup lights. My only problem is that I can not find a relay that will fit the bill. Basicaly it would need to be able to be turned on by 2 seperate sources and then I will have a switch with a dead center position. If this is not making sense please ask questions as I want to do this very badly. And once I can figure it out someone else can use the info to build one for themselves. Switch positions will be 1) on with backup lights 2) off no matter if in reverse or not 3) on with a switch in the cab no matter if in reverse or not as long as key is on. Not a bad job if I can find a relay Oo.

I did the back up light trick with standard Bosch relay in the rear of the truck at the trailer light power source. I found some small 50 watt fog lights and used rtv to bond them under the bumper on top of the tow bar frame.

Down side is they only work in reverse as the relay coil is powered by the back up lamp circuit. Which only works with the key on and reverse. Love it.

You could run a three conductor cable from the rear to your switch in the cab and get the desired results.

to get the to turn on when you are in reverse with the back up lights on or when you flip a switch just use a normal relay and with termnal 85 and 86 have on 85 go to ground and 86 go to the the reverse lights but diode isolate it and then tap in another wire diode isolated to termnal 86 and run that to your switch

then hook the other side of the switch to either power so you can turn them on any time or to and ignition wire so its olny with the key in



i know how to hook them up the way your talking about and you don=t need anything special just two 5 pin relays but it more complacatied but if you want to know just email me at gtg631b@mail. gatech. edu and i will draw up a diagram on how to wire it

One of the first things I did on the truck was to install a terminal block on the trailer light circuit at the rear of the truck to facilitate hook-ups. I hate crummy trailer light connection. Having the block there made back up lights a cinch.

The diode trick is a good idea.
