Hi guys. My '03 with 25,000 miles is now blowing the 10 amp mini fuse marked "A/C clutch". My dealer says no warranty coverage as the truck is over 4 years old, so I took it to my rad shop. Without going into it too much he indicated that it was most likely the coil in the compressor. I read somewhere on here of making sure that the wiring going to the compressor not be rubbing against the bottom of the rad, is that correct? I looked and can see no wiring near the rad. Have others had a/c compressor problems like this? Seems odd that this would pack it in so soon. Thanks.

The wiring that crosses the radiator is for the fan clutch, not the A/C compressor. And that problem lies in the shroud for the wiring harness rubbing a hole in the radiator.

If it's blowing 10a fuses, then I'd assume the clutch has gone bad on the compressor. A new clutch shouldn't be very expensive, or difficult to change.

Ryan: Thanks for the reply. I now recall the wiring for the fan clutch. Thanks for clearing that up. I asked my dealer if covered by warranty and they said no. I asked if "any goodwill" since truck has only 40,000 km in 4 yrs. They said no. I don't expect anything for nothing but I thought I would ask. I will be dropping it off at my rad shop vs the dealer. Have a great day.

On another thread somewhere else in here last night I read someone comment that the cost of a new A/C clutch is almost as much as a whole new compressor.

If that's the case, I'd spring for the new compressor.

Remember though, replacing a clutch doesnt require discharging the refrigerant. Replacing the whole compressor requires a recovery/evacuation/recharge of the refrigerant. That adds a lot of labor which makes the overall job much more expensive than you originally propose.
