11.5 AAM rear differential. Is 2 WD and 4x4 same rear end?

I swapped out a 11.5 3.73 rear end out of a 2005 2 wheel drive 2500 Quad cab. When I was looking for a rear end for this truck, everyone said 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive rear were different? I had my 2007 2500 4x4 CTD Quad cab truck on the lift and after doing some measuring on the two rear ends, I can't find anything that is different? Any help?

i thik the gas ones are 10.?? somethings. and the 3500's are larger then the 11.5... that one should be the same.

According to the 2004 parts fiche, there are different part numbers for 2WD and 4WD in both the 10.5 inch and the 11.5 inch axle assemblies.

For example, in 4.10 [DMF], Anti-Spin [DSA], 11.5 SRW [DRQ], for the 2500 2WD (line 2) and the 3500 2WD (line 3), the part number is 05127626AA, whereas the same specs [DRQ, DMF, DSA] for the 2500 4WD (line 7) and the 3500 4WD (line 8), the part number is 05127630AA.

I can't tell you what the difference might be, but there does seem to be a difference.

Are your spring perch on top or bottom. 4wd are on top.

Yes both perches are on top. I just had my 4x4 on the lift and the old 2wd 11.5 was real close to it. I measured the spring perches and they are the same. Like I said. I ran into the fact that it calls for a different rear end , but I'll by damned if I can find a difference?

Pinion rotated slight to give correct u-joint angle. Just guess what could be different.

I was hoping there would be someone on here that might have did the swap or tried it. I wound up with a good rear and was wondering if it would fit 4x2 and 4x4.
