These are being installed in our trucks and are currently available. They are the Eaton units that have been supplied in the GM trucks for a while now. I had one of the old units in a 1985 GM truck and while many broke them I never did and was pleased with the operation back then. The new units don't suffer from the breakage problems of the past supposedly because they are so big . I was wondering if anyone here at TDR has actually installed one and if so how is it working out for you?

It is my personal opinion, based on personal experience, that those gov loc units are total garbage. I blew up two of them in a 3/4 ton chevy, and it was surprisingly easy to do. I wouldn't let a gov loc anywhere near my diff, especially with the CTD torque going to it. The Chevy we had ate two gov locs in less than a month while empty and powered by a 454.

Get an air locker. The centrifigual clutches in the goc loc design like to explode into pieces.

As stated above I am aware of the past history of the old gov lock. My question is how are the new gov loc units holding up and how are they performing. The new units are being used behind the Duramax's so the reliabilty can't be that bad or is it?

Air lockers for our diffs are supposed to be a while before they are available and I don't want a full time locker in the rear. Currently it seems the only available units for the rear are the factory AAM tru-trac or the AAM supplied GM style gov-loc.

I saw a post on one of the Dmax boards showing how to adapt Dodge's limited slip to a Chevy in place of the Gov-lok. I can't remember the reason for the switch... but I seem to really breakage being part of it.

I did some checking and found that there is a true track like unit offered for the 11. 5 rearends. If interested e-mail me. Mike

A Duramax owning friend posted on a Dmax site to ask this same question for me and it seems some of those guys are indeed breaking the gov locs. Some are putting our tru tracs in their trucks. Another friend talked to Detriot and they are redesigning their Dodge AAM locker because some of the test units failed. They also said they were trying to get the fixes done ASAP. I suppose I'll just have to be patient and see what else develops for the rears. Maybe Eaton will step up and get the E-locker out for our 11. 5" or ARB will get theirs out sooner than later.

:-laf:-laf... i have one sitting on the floor in the garage from a gm 10bolt [out of my pop's 99 1500 silverado] that the case split on. . oh well, caught it before it completely grenaded, so out it came, in went a new open carrier and reused the ring gear and pinion [no damage from debris]. .
