I would like to get a #11 fuel plate. Will this be a good plate to tow with. Or will the egts get high to fast? I have a 30ft 5ver.

I have stock exhast and won't have the funds to replace this for quite a while. Would a 16cm turbo housing help the egts much?

Thanks in advance.

Dennis B

I have found that the #11 plate works very well for towing in my 5 sp truck. As the egt issue goes, as long as you don't get radical and slide the plate foward, you should be fine on egts. If you find that the egts are getting up there, just take a minute and slide the plate back 20 thousand.

As for the 16cm housing, it will lower egts some, but at the cost of low-end response. You will need to increase fueling at low-end to make up for the lack of response, which will increase smoke.

I would check your cat first, most likely that is where your restriction is on the exhaust.

How much low end resonse is lost with 16cm turbo housing?

I've got the stock fuel plate slid full forward right now and the AFC star wheel cranked all the way. I only have a problem with egts when in 5th and full defueling takes place. It will stay at about 1150-1175 until 2800rpms then she climb real fast past 1300. So judging by this do you think I would have much a problem with the #11 plate?

The 11 plate is terrific! My cat plugged at 19k - it's 4" straight thru now. I tried the 16 housing and didn'nt like it - too much lag and smoke at shifts. I think the 14 is best for all around use - driveability, power and helps egt. The 16 might be good with the PDR turbo. My PDR/14 is like driving a manual trans car and makes less smoke at shifts than it did totally stock! Craig

Dennis, I'm looking at plate profiles I traced onto paper. The stock plate full forward is probably giving you more fuel at high rpm than the 11 centered. The 11 is a quicker profile at lower rpm(the bottom ramp slopes to the front of the truck as it goes up) than stock and begins main fueling at lower rpm than stock. It's the best one I've had for towing. I haven't heard of anyone who didn't like the 11 in the 215! Check your cat first and see if there is any plugging on the ends - if there is, break out the core with a wrecking bar or BIG drill. It's like breaking a hard mud clod. That could be causing problems already. Mine passes the emission test EASILY, even with no cat. My boost and power went to h@ll when mine was just partially plugged. Try plugging the wastegate line and see if you get more boost at WOT. When mine was stock, it would hit 25 at this altitude. I don't know if they will build too much drive pressure at your alt - they won't here. Gotta put up Christmas lights! Craig

#11 - right on, unless ...

you're going to change turbos, in which case, bypass the #11 & go straight to the #8. ;)

Sounds like the 11 is what I should go with.

By the way at 2900 rpm the boost gauge is a 31 pounds.

Thanks for all the usefull info. Now if you guys would just help me pay for this stuff? I mean its your fault for getting me started in this!! HA HA just kiddin

You guys are great

Dennis

DBR, I agree about the cost. The 14 is the best thing that Banks provided in my original kit. Piers has a solution now for that(cost)! Forrest, I'm glad you brought up the 8 plate. I've been thinking about a 6 or 8 but haven't seen either of them. That may be what I need now. Since the Twin Ram and PDR turbo, I can barely get enough fuel to get egt up. I like the bottom of the 11 plate for my stock clutch. I'd like to find a plate similar to the 11 on the bottom ramp but considerably more fuel on the top ramp(relative to the bottom). I've been very tempted to grind the top ramp a little but I've been warned by Joe D about it wearing. Sounds like the hardening doesn't go very deep. Joe wants me to use a 10 but I like the bottom end of the 11 just the way it is. I want more top end. How does the 8 compare to the 11 in terms of the bottom AND top ramps? I've got the 11 slid about half way between center and full forward now and power at the top end feels dead compared to the bottom end. I think I can get more out of the 215 injectors. Craig

If I remember my dyno tests etc. the 11 is a bit stronger than the 8 in midrange power. The 8 is stronger on top end because the 11 gives some fuel holdback for egt control. The 215 pump delivers so much more fuel than the 180 pump that you can't get away with the high rpm richness of the 8 in the bigger pump, unless you do a lot more work like porting, turbo, etc. Of course the new magic camshaft helps too. Just put in a 10 and watch your foot. It too gives a bit of fuel control at top end so egt's wont go off the map, as long as you have the 16 cm2 housing t a minimum. Moving the 11 just a bit forward is all the egt you usually can take on the 215 pump. Try 1/32" at a time and watch egts. I found that 0. 035" gave 28 hp but up to 100-150 deg. egt. Sickly is running my custom "0" plate but it takes a lot of work to keep the egt's down with all that fuel. There is nothing stronger than the zero, for those who are old enough to have it. :D

Joe, the thing I'm worried about is doping off and not watching! I need a refresher on the 10. I think you said that the bottom ramp on the 10 is nearly gone, giving outragious fuel at the bottom end. I really don't want that - to preserve my clutch and everything else from all the torque. I already pulled one 5th wh RV apart! I think the bottom of the 11 is perfect. I want outragious fueling at the top! I'm not having an egt problem - I can barely get past 1250! The most I can hit at 70mph(towing) is 950. My 11 is about . 050" front of center now. Do you still have that 62408 plate? Do you know of any plate that has the bottom profile of the 11 and the top somewhere between the 11 and the 62408? I don't know if I could handle all of the 62408 top end yet. I think that would be the finishing touch for mine and keep it fairly idiot proof! I want to avoid having to watch the egt unless I'm really beating it up a pass - then I know I will be watching. I don't remember what you said the top of the 62408 is equivalent to in a TST plate(6 or 8). I know I'm not old enough(or daring enough)for your "0" plate! I'll leave that for you crazy R&D guys!! Thanks Joe!
