fuel filter housing is leaking from the heater wires. called the dealer to see if just the heater can be replaced or just the top of canister. first the dealer said my 99 didn't have a fuel heater. then he said he did not know because he didn't have a picture of it. after 10 min. of me telling him it was a heater he told me it could not be replaced but he could sell me a new canister for $1100. called cummings they told me it was a dodge part and they have no part #. starting to fell like i'll have to poke out $1100 to get my truck back on the road. has anyone had this problem before and what did you do.

There was a earlier post containing the same problem. Someone makes a aftermarket filer setup. It is without the heater though... . You could go that route until you could find a replacement & probably still be $800-$900 ahead.

For that matter, install a FASS & do away with the stock lift pump & filter housing all together & still be $500 ahead.

I'm getting to the point I rather get parts most anywhere but Dodge. They seem about twice as expensive as other places.

If I was in your position and couldn't find a more reasonable price, I'd really consider going with either a FASS or an AIR DOG.

what do you do with the heater and water sensor

no longer use them. the only issue ive had is when i wash the truck or go thew a big puddle the water in fuel light comes on for a few mins. maybe see if anyone on here that hass done away with their stock fuel system is willing to sell it.

I can't believe you typed "Cummings" and no one said anythinig :--)

I think I figured out the problem. He called the cummings parts place, not the CUMMINS parts place. The guys at cummings are all idiots, call Cummins they will hook you up.

:D :D

No really get a FASS and be done. If you really wanted to you could probably redo the entire filter system from RACOR (including a fuel heater), but its going to take some work.

I will pull all of mine off and sell it to ya for $900 :-laf Nah just buy a FASS cheaper and better. ;)

I have this fuel seepage problem on my 99 it seeps out at the fuel heater when running and then looses its pressure or prime in the morning when i start it. it starts then dies. however, you can leave the key on longer till the fuel is back full in the housing. Now . i have a connection that is going to fix mine. 200. 00 there are 2 o-rings on the top and the bottom of the heater, (the rubber insert with the red and black wires) you have to take the unit off your engine and take the o-rings out. one on top and one on bottom. the problem is, that just any o-ring wont do, im told because the fuel will eat-up an ordinary one. this is what i was told today and i will get my truck fixed next week. located in central texas close to Waco. can let you know how it turns out. and yes, the gut at dodge told me the same thing 1094. 00 just for the top of the housing. its all about money with dealers as far as im concerned. just hope this helps. dont get in too big of a hurry. just make sure your filter is full bfore satrting each time . so what!!!!!!!!

So what? Wow. That really makes me want to answer your question.

Seriously, it may have been a typo on your part. That's fine, I will recommend that if you want help around here, don't pull an attitude like that. You won't get what you are looking for.

This one is from a 12V '98. The 12V's didn't have the heater in the fuel canister, they have it mounted right after the mech. lift pump. To get one with the heater it'd have to be a 24V unit, and any used one will likely have the same problem. I'm going to be solving mine by upgrading to a 2000-03 used filter housing. The trick is getting the heater and water sensor connectors from a wiring harness.

exact same problem

i had this exact same problem. i drove around with it leaking for about 6 months because it was going to cost so much to replace it. i eventually found a place nearby called All Dodge Trucks, and they happened to have one. it was used, but the price was about half as much as dodge wanted. pm me for more info if you want. i could give you a number and you could see if they have one, and would be willing to ship it.

Weather you go FASS or not, the mopar guy has his head in his a&$. And apparently the cummings guy. I found a number on mine called the cummins shop accross town and found the head alone is NAP, but he could order the complete housing. Easier to swallow at like $160 or 170. Still too much for me, could get one on Ebay for less.

I repaired mine for now, a FASS is in the future, money better spent on that.
