110V interior outlet

i want to hardwire my 800W inverter into my truck and I need a 110V outlet that would look good on the inside of my truck not a household outlet with a big faceplate... does anyone know of anything like this? thanks

Get you an inverter. That is what i use for my laptop that i run my gps on.

Some of the RV stuff pretty nice. You can also check in with some truck shops. The guy that hard wired the one in my Father-in-law's new Pete did a really nice job on a couple of plugs.

I'm doing the same thing. I found some really neat outlets at a local electronics shop. It's a snap in single outlet that you could mount into the face of about anything. They are black, too. I guess you could call them a panel-mount outlet. I've seen these outlets used in a panel on the top of conference tables at my work. They cost about $1 each.

Thanks alot for the comments! Yeah as some read I already have the inverter and I dont want to have to hook it all up in my truck when I want to use it for my laptop. I want a clean look like you guys are talking about that someone would not notice in my truck at first. Out of sight out of mind that idea. I will go to radio shack today adn see what I can find. . thanks alot.

I have a 500w. It fits under the center console against the floor, facing out the back of the seat. I put some velcro on top of it, which sticks to the bottom of the seat and it stays put. You can reach down behind the console to turn the power on and off.

on my cheap 500w inverter, the 2 plugs on the front come off pretty easially, and are just snap fit into the square hole. . maybe just pull the front panel apart and make new wires to go from the PCB to the recepticles [and at the same time relocate/wire the on/off switch]?

Yeah that is what I was thinking... Leaving the inverter constantly on and putting a switch on the dash to turn it on or off when needed. I will check and see if I can pull those ones out. Thanks again for all of the advice... I think this little mod is a nice thing to do in any truck.

Depending on the inverter, some will draw an amp or more at rest with the power on. That's a lot. Also, make sure you use the correct size power and ground cables. These things can require some serious cable.



Also note that some of the cheaper inverters will not effectively work with battery chargers (cell phones, cordless tools, etc) due to the frequency they operate. You'll also see that on some of the cheap ones that the manufacturer does not recommend using them for sensitive electronics, such as laptops. There truly is a difference between a $300 250 watt inverter and a $59 250 watt inverter.
