I have a '97 12 valve eingine in my '93 Chevy pickup. Has 45K in truck now, but I have been plagued with serpentine belt alignment problems since installation.
Problem is the AC pump is forward just about one rib (1/8" +).
The engine came out of Utah, and it had an aftermarket very large 23" fiberglass fan. It had a unique (2" shorter) serpentine belt, and a smaller fan pulley and fan bearing mount. It had perfect alignment with this setup.
The aluminum pulley self-destructed, and my problems began. I replaced the pulley and mount with OEM and now a normal OEM length belt.
I compensated with washers on the alternator, and washers behind the OEM fan bearing mount. This brought alignment close, and is fine, except when I run the AC.
If I run the AC, the belt begins to wear on the rear side and is short-lived.
I just ordered a complete AC / alternator mount. There is no P/N on the mount. Hope this fixes the problem. All parts would be OEM.
Am I on the right path, or is the mount merely money spent?
