life is funny; the leprechaun story

Last year, I bought a Remington 870 Home Defense, 18-1/2" barrel shotgun & have some bird shot in it for home defense. However, I would like to buy some 00-Buck for when I'm camping in the forests.

The other day, I went to the Sportsman's Warehouse & they had Remington 12 Ga. 00-Buck for $4. 99 for 5 rounds (normally, $5. 99). They also had some Military Grade (MG) by Olin Mfg. for $4. 99 for 5 rounds. No one I ran across at the store knew the difference in the MG stuff. It comes in a plain brown box with a white label.

Do you guys know if there is any difference between the two brands? Anything special about the MG?

Thanks.

probably nothing wrong with it... . but if you are going to defend yourself, you might want to go with brand name stuff... ... ... depends on what they mean about military grade... ... usa or stuff made in 8th world country... .

The Olin ammo is Winchester, IIRC. Nothing wrong with it. Look for pellet count. Standard is 9 pellets of 00(. 25") for 2 3/4". Then check dram measurements, the Remington should be 4 drams of powder, . I believe the Olin and Remington will be the same. I personally like the Federal made Military buckshot. I'm not sure on the cost per box, but it works out to $105 per 125 rounds, again, IIRC. 3" mag shotgun rounds from Federal usually have 15 pellets of the 00 buck. Wholesale price on the Remington rounds is usually around $3. 90 box, the Olin around $3. 50, so the Remington price is not bad. They used to have a Sportsman's Wharehouse close to me, and it was one of the best places to buy much of anything.....

Thanks for your replies.

The other day, I emailed the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game & they responded quickly with the fact that they, also, use the Rem 870 with Brenneke 2-3/4" rifled slugs. I was watching a program on AK Fish & Game & it looked like they wre using slugs in a shotgun on that program.

I thought that the MG used full brass casings? they were brass to the crimp and then plastic crimp cap with wax water seal. 3in mag was 9, 9mm slugs? maybe wrong its happened before. I do remember the brass casings. LORD KNOWS I SHOT ENOUGH OF THEM. Damn monkeys would pick up anything shinny and run off with it( tools ) until ya cut them down with 00

Another NASTY round we used in VN I think that these were actually against the GENOVEA CONVENTION THESE WERE REAL UGLY But what's fair?

A Flechette is a small dart shaped projectile, that is clustered in an explosive warhead, dropped in a missile from an airplane or fired from a hand held weapon. One unique application of this 1" Flechette was to load these in a 12 GA. shotgun for taking out snipers hiding in thick brush or trees. Due to the penetration of these projectiles, tree limbs and brush would not disperse the darts. Even if some were dispersed, this would still have an all-covering pattern within a tree or brush. Generally 20 of these darts are placed in each 12 GA. shell. Also known as "Satan's Toothpicks" 2 3/4" round.

When you POSTIVITLEY / ABSOULTLEY have to KICK SOME A** hold trigger finger FIRMLEY against the rear of the trigger guard and RACK THE FORE STOCK IN THE GENERAL DRIECTION OF THE PROBLEM :-laf It was my GIRLFREIND for 19 months. Marketed as the Marine combat. Now called the Savage Persuader. I like those. The fletchette rounds are illegal in many states. You can still buy them in Texas and Oklahoma, of course. :D The don't seem that lethal, though. Certainly don't work for crap on hogs!! The buckshot works wonders, though. Guess it penetrates more... . kinda like firing 9 . 25 caliber black powder pistols in the same direction at one time... . the magnums can have 15 pellets, and really will scatter just about anything..... Slugs are great, but you have to hit what you're aiming at... . The new Military Grade rounds are plastic cased, high brass. Here's current Lake City plant manufacture, Mil-Spec buckshot:

It was just some kind of heat deflection and guard. When using it as it was intended it got REAL hot and the distortion was pretty bad. Personally I didn't use it on the shoulder but more of a JOHN WAYNE hip shoot. If the VC got that close aiming was not going to help. Just a personal note SHOT GUNS DO A TREMONDUS AMOUNT OF DAMMAGE!!!!! A TREMONDOUS AMOUNT!!!!!!. If you use one for self defense be prepared for what you will see. Because it is a frightening sight. I don't watch many war movies but the Green Bret with John Wayne said to the reporter. A man takes one of these (a gun ) into combat and by the GRACE OF GOD HE COMES OUT ALIVE he carries a strange sense of GUILT for the rest of HIS LIFE. It's TRUE and mainly because of the sight of what shotguns can do. It is TRULEY UNBELEIVBALE POWER.

BIG, you give me ill thoughts... I wouldn't wish anyone would have to see those things. I sent a good friend out of here Friday. He's enlisting in the Corp, shipping out next Monday, so we had a "Goodbye Blast" with a bunch of tannerite exploding targets at various ranges and setups. Another friend came down this week on leave at the same time, and we did some shooting and fishing. He didn't take part much in the shooting and blowing crap up, so he and I visited on how he was doing. He's been in Afghanistan almost a year, up in the mountains, leading a Marksman team for the Army. He's had enough shooting. Although I did get him behind the stock of my . 243 WSSM, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He said it's nice to shoot something and not have to worry about it shooting back!!! He's seen way too much for his age, so it was good for him to just enjoy life a little. He's not the same guy, anymore... ... both good and bad, I guess.

HH HE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN AND HE SHOULDN'T EVER TRY TO BE. I have been to many group meetings at the VA hospitals to help myself and others and one thing NEVER TO DO is suppress those feelings. Unless you or anyone else he talks to have done and seen what he has they have no idea what he is feeling and even if they have been there/done that everyone takes it different. I didn't have the fear of it shooting back I have the problem of looking at what I did after it was all over and at times can VIVIDALY REMEMBER seeing shots that hit and what they did. Just don't let him slip off and go some place DARK I did and it took SOMEONE VERY SPECIAL to get me out she's my WIFE NOW. Hope it works out for him and his family its not just HIS PROBLEM.

I completely agree, BIG. Luckily, he's got more support than you probably did when you came back. I did tell him that there are reasons for everything, and that I was glad he was out there, protecting my family and country. It's much better for him to be over THERE fighting them, than us fighting them HERE. The things he saw his children won't have to see, because he did it.

He's a good guy, with wife and kids, already. I think the kids will help keep him sound. He's really attached to that little boy. He understands he's fighting an enemy that's been decieved, and they wouldn't hesitate to kill him in any circumstance. I think he's on level with it, but this is he 3rd tour, and I think he's done after this. He's tired of fighting and carrying the responsibility of a team Captain. It's really aged him, and not just physically. He didn't say that, but he did mention and we talked about finding a good job in a year, so he's thinking it, wheither he knows it or not. With his credentials, I don't think he'll find it hard to get a job anywhere.

Good Deal I hope that all that come home get some kind of counselling EVERY ONE OF THEM NEED SOME. You cant go to someplace like that and not come back changed some how!!!! I think that our society has FINNALY learned that you just cant bring them home and DUMP them out on their own I think that's why we have so many WACKED OUT people out running around ( myself included) And you do loose some of your life I went over like many at 18 And came back 19 months later many years older. Its said that the military will make you grow up IS THAT SUCH A GOOD THING.
