How much difference does a #12 plate make when towing? Are any mods needed to control egts? I am thinking of getting a plate and I tow quite a bit and could use a little more power. Everything is stock right now it is a 97 5 speed with 135,000.

#11

i have an 11 plate and it is great for towing. i can pull just about anything and the egt's are fine,it's stopping that worry's me sometimes.

With the addictive nature of adding fuel, you may want to consider going straight to the #11. There is adjustment with the plates & in our pumps, the difference between centered & full forward is 40 to 60hp!

I don't think the #11 centered will be too much, but if you think it is, then just slide it back a little. I towed the 5'er with it slid all the way forward & only ran into EGT limits with WOT held on long grades.

had no idea

i had no idea that moving the plate around would give you so much power. i got my new clutch and 5th gear shaft. i also have some 3k gov spr kit from a friend. i think i have to slide it forward a little when i do all the work to my truck. thank for the info. i love this web site

Sure does rdrose :) The #11 full forward is about = to the #8 in our 215 pumps. Sliding it forward increases low end fuel & therefore low end EGT.

My '97 with only a #11 full forward dynoed 313rwhp. TST supposedly rates them at flywheel hp (centered), so it's fairly safe to say 2 things. TST underrates their torque plates, and there is a significant gain to be had by sliding the plate.

rdrose

I have the #11 in my truck and when I tow heavy, if it is centered it doesn't cause any problems egt wise. I tell you what if you buy a #10 I will give you my plate and 50$. The ten is for more hotrodding and thats what I do most of the time now, it will get you a plate for cheap price!!!!

I got the BOMBing bug last April, got a 11 plate, and boost elbow. That was not good enough, so I slid the plate full forward... More power, and nice EGT readings. Then, when I was out of plate slide, I got 191's in September... 1 week to the day after the 191's went in, I blew my HX35 at 49 PSI... . Just a little out of the efficiency range. Since then, I have a PDR HX40-16, CON OFE #2, 4" Jardine, and 10 plate... EGT's hit about 1250° at WOT, while running empty on the highway.

I have the #11 and other stuff too and EGTs are very controllable when towing a 6500lb TT in mountains or any place at all. I have towed with it slid all the way forward and its still very controllable but you cant ignore the EGT gauge on hills, but it will fly up the hills. I want to try a #10 now.
