12 v cable from camper

When I brought the 5er home in April from the dealer, the 12v cable from the camper to the truck dragged on the pavement and wore through. I took a bungy cord the next trip and attached it to the notched tailgate. It pulled the connectors loose from the gooseneck because there wasn't enough slack. Any of you experienced campers have a suggestion how I can get the right amount of slack between the camper and pickup? I see the 18 wheelers have springs to act as a buffer between the trailer and tractor. Is there anything like that for sale to use with fifth wheels?

Dragging

I mounted a receptacle in the bed of my truck and run a jumper from my hitch plug to the one in the bed, that solves the hangin loose cable for me. If you are going to plug into the hitch mounted receptacle, I would cut the lead off on the trailer so the slack in the cable won't drag the ground. bg

I was having a hard time figuring out how this was happening until you mentioned the bumper plug. As said above, just add a plug in the bed.

You don't need a extra plug. I run my cable under the tail gate,(between the bed & tail gate) close the gate and it holds the cable at the required length needed to plug in the bumper hitch.

then have the cord with the extra cable coiled on the bed of the truck. I have towed this way for years with out any problems.

You guys have too much time on your hands. Tie a couple of knots in the cable to take up the slack!
