I've got a 97 ram with no fuel upgrades and I haven't made any afc mods. My wastegate is unhooked and my reference line is plugged. I'm only able to make 22 pounds of boost. Is this typical with no fuel mods? In order to see more boost do I have to add more fuel? With the wastegate unhooked I expected to see more boost. Thanks for the guidance.

check over all your intercooler hoses check that your fuel filter is clean and that your lift pump is in good shape...but yeah without adding some fuel you arent going to make much more boost... just slide your plate forward to begin with that will help... you did not disconnect the refrence line to the afc did you? because you need that line connected, thats how you get more fuel under boost... if you unhooked it hook that one back up

I fixed all my boost leaks yesterday and I have a brand new lift pump and overflow valve. I unhooked and plugged the reference line from the afc. My wastegate is seized shut and my actuator is trashed.

the reference line to the AFC has to be hooked up... it is what gives the engine more fuel as boost increases... when you unhook this you take power away not add it... hook the reference line back up..

I unhooked the line that comes over the engine and hooks to the actuator. My actuator is completely rusted. When I did my boost leak test there was a massive amount of air puking out through the side of the actuator. That's why I unhooked and plugged it. I believe that's the reference line? I will hook it back up but because the actuator is losing all of the pressure will it still send the proper message to the afc? Thanks for your help......

no the AFC line is a small plastic line that goes from the cylinder head on the intake side to the top of the injection pump ... If I were you I would hook the wastegate rod back up if you unhooked it... the spring in the actuator will keep the wastegate shut... with the rod off it is possible that when the turbine housing heats up that drive pressure could blow the WG open and you would loose boost alltogether due to no drive pressure ..WG open
I think I understand that you unhooked the rod and the boost signal line to the wastegate but not the AFC line...?

take care
