Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows someone or any company that makes Cummins Powered sandrails ?

Thanks,

I'm wanting to build a minimalist selectable front wheel drive with a transfercase to activate the rear axle when nessesary or wanted. I realize that a Cummins engine and transmission together weigh more than most any complete sand rail. I was just thinking that with all of the weight over the front axle I would not have to worry about the front end kicking up and being selectable front wheel drive I shouldn't run into very many situations where I wouldn't already have excellent traction but if I would I always could just activate the rear axle.

Buy a rusted out 12v and throw all the body parts in the trash and build a roll cage...done. :-laf

Sounds like truggy not buggy, with the correct axle placement and wheel base lifting the front end is semi-controllable

I'm basically looking to build a 4-door street legal daily driver wheelchair accessible front engine front wheel drive 4x4 with a dramatically turned up 12 valve cummins powered vehicle that would out class any or nearly factory 4x4 vehicle (truck/jeep) and keep up with some custom vehicles. But also be small enough to easily park and drive.

Yeah I know, but I think that it could be achieved for less than $200,000 (still around $100,000 but still). Considering that the most expensive parts would be the engine which a simple twin charged system different camshaft, pistons, and fuel system getting 1,000 horsepower out of a 12 valve cummins should be achievable, a stage 5 or 6 Allison 6 speed transmission to handle all of the power and get it to the ground, and a wheelchair lift out of a cargo van as well as a 360 degree rotating seat out of an rv to transfer, all that really would be left would be the chassis/frame which would with good design could be made from new steel from a metal dealer, A.C./Heat, radio and body which could be grafted together from many different things (I've always liked rat rods anyway).

Las Vegas Rat Rods, would love to to you the favor of building what you want. They love these kind of challenges.

Other than not having the funds to pay Las Vegas Rat Rods at the moment, what I want the vehicle to be is VERY specific and detail oriented and I don't think they like to show or take any specific guidelines or ideas that said customer may have during the build for the vehicle until the vehicle is finished (even though the customer is providing the funds for the vehicle).

Yes I agree, without the funds none of it matters, I was just saying that if I'm going to do this I'm going to do it my way.

This idea makes about as much sense as trying to build a sand rail starting with a steam locomotive transplanted into a Conestoga wagon.

So 50BMG your saying you don't have the money to do this type of build ??....then why even start a post about it ??...or are you trolling

I was merely looking for the thoughts and opinions of people that are smarter than me before I start to acquire the nessesary funds. I don't troll and if it seemed like I was then I apologize because that was not my intent.

Maybe a 4BT would be a better start weight wise.

I have 2 projects that have sat for 20+ years, 57 Suburban and 48 willys 2wd pickup, if you can dream it and eventually things fall into place why not plan ahead and see if it has ever been done and gather ideas.. Hope to get back going on my projects here soon...or don't we all.

About 15yr ago helped rewire a home built 10' long hover craft with a subaru rear engine and 60" rear prop and 10hp lift motor. Had to rewire it after we crashed it into a T100 on the 3rd trip ever in it. My friend had over 700hr into that beast, was a blast the whole time. Very complicated build but on a budget and crazy as can be he finished it, crashed it, rebuilt it and drove the heck out of it. Then sold it.

People build some crazy stuff on a budget. Maybe start with 100hp and work your way up.

Get your self a decent 2nd GEN to pull it with.
