Ok so i am looking at possibly trading my 98. 5 24 valve extended cab short bed for a 94 reg cab long bed. here is the ad:

1994 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 12v Cummins Diesel. 134xxx miles! 5 speed manual with 3. 54 gears. Custom cut fuel delevery valves, Stait pipe exaust, cold air intake. The timing is bumped up to 22 deg. Fuel plate has been romoved and the killer dowel pin fix has been done. This truck is completly RUST FREE!! The inside is perfect, the dash aint even cracked and I have put seats out of a 97 in it. It has a 2in leveling kit with 17x9 wheels with 35x12. 50 BF Goodwrench Mud Terrains that have over 75% tread left on them. I had the whole truck painted 6 months ago. Just changed the oil on 12-10-10 This truck runs very strong and I drive it every day... Im only selling it because I want a extended cab

What are the common problems with this year truck? with the modifications listed what will the power output be? would it be worth it? thanks guys

is 22 deg alot? he said that clutch wont hold WOT in 5th gear. i would ask but of course the answer will be "no it hasnt been run hard at all". is there anyway to tell if it has been run hard?

Yes 22 degrees is a little to high for street driving. 15. 5 to 16 degrees is better for street driving.

Sounds like he mite be driving it hard, seems he is testing it out at wot to know the clutch won't hold in 5th. Which means that you will need to replace it.

Yes, sounds like he Hot-Rodded it, and as all performance mods and hot-rodding goes, the more you do, the longevity and reliability suffers accordingly... just know what you are getting before you buy it... more of a toy than a daily driver

Take a good look over the truck. It sounds like it was pushed a little bit. Take the truck for a test drive and get it good and warmed up. Leave the truck running and check out the blowby tube and pull out the oil dipstick. If you are getting excessive smoke or oil coming from the tube or pressure from the dipstick tube, then I would think the truck had been run hard and look for another truck. Changing the timing is not very hard but is does require a couple of special tools.

For me, the "Goodwrench" tires, "stait" pipe exhaust, fuel plate "romoved" and 22 degree timing would be enough to turn me off. I think you'd be better off finding a stock (or near stock) 12 valve and modifying to your needs/wants. My . 02

I'd estimate the HP at 280. If he still has the stock turbo, I'd estimate egt's at well over 1600 deg. under power, and the number of cracks in the head at 6 or more. If it still has the stock exhaust manifold, I'd estimate that it has shrunk 3/16" and is bending the bolts on the end cylinders. Time to replace it before it breaks an ear on the head.
