What's up Fellas,

Just need a helpful hint. On my 96 12 valve, what's the best (easiest) way to remove my injectors for inspection/cleaning? I have over 200K on them and have never touched them, or should I just leave well enough alone. Truck seems to run well. Thanks for any input. Mike

Theres 2 ways to look at it , if it aint broke don't fix it but part of owning the truck is having fun so take it apart.
Same thing on how to do the job , do you have a tool jones ?
Then buy a tool for it , if it saves time and does a good job , theres a lot of tools out there that don't .
this is one were if your good with your hands , you can get around the tool , find a nut that screws on in place of the fuel line , what you want to do is have a way of prying the injector straight up [ not cocking in either direction , or it can bind at least and damage at worst]
Some times with miles on them they need to be broken lose , carbon buildup , need kind of a snap , thats when it starts to help to have the tool that incorparates a slide hamer.
Hope that helps.

MHalloran, after removing all the lines steal one of the lugs nuts off a wheel and screw that on the injector to pry on (threads match amazingly). That's how I've done mine. My tips were mightly crudded up when I pulled mine!

Not to contradict Vaughn, but prying scared me. The fellow that gave me the 215's had pryed them out and messed up the threads on 2 of them. I went to the hardware store and bought a 3/4" close pipe nipple. It slides right over the end of the injector. Then I removed one of my lug nuts and screwed it on the end of the injector. Pulled them right out, pretty as you please. The rounded part of the lug nut fits right down in the nipple and keeps it centered.

FN you mean something like some Extrude Honed 370's. ;)

Not you, Never

On subject. I wouldn't mess with it. Unless you are having issues or are replacing them.

shoot, but the time I finally make it home, I'll have a big brother under that 66, a built pump, and some EDM's! LOL!

nah... we'll see what those EH370's can do w/ the 66 first :)

Vaughn,

I think what this fella had done was to screw the nut on and then got the pry bar under the nut, up against the threads, and hit the end of the prybar with a hammer or something. The prybar is what messed the threads up. I'm sure if your careful, maybe screw the nut down a little further, you'll be fine.

Guys,

Thanks for all your replies. Gotten good ideas from you all. What I think I'm

gonna do for now is agree with Crawler's idea. No issues or problems & no

intensions right now to go bigger - leave them alone. After hearing so much about pullin' them I thought maybe I should. Like I had mentioned, truck runs good, do mostly highway driving, so I guess because of this I would not expect much build-up, right? Thanks again. TDR cranks! :D

I've been thinking about sending Brady my 370's to let him do a 2 flow job on them as my everyday injector and keep the EDM's for events and testing..... but the testing is just about done for everything.
