12 volts to trailer

This past weekend I hooked up the wiring for a fifth wheel trailer I should be getting this Friday. I noticed the 12 volt supply to the trailer is always hot. Is correct? This is my first Dodge, the Fords I had in the past only had the 12 volts when the ignition was on.

You are correct. Always hot, and no isolation, works fine.

Thanks for the help. In that case all is well here. Great information on your site. I spliced the connections near the factory 7 wire plug and mounted the connector in the same bed location as shown in the pictures. Now if I could get a Brakesmart controller for the brakes.
