I have an 'ole 92 CTD. I have performed the power upgrades to her that Dave Fritz shows on Dodge Ram .org . I made the adjustments to the Bosch VE pump that he has step by step on his web site. NOW,,,If I purchase a 12cm turbo hsg and install it,,will I have to de-tune the Bosch pump? I still have the original injectors, but throwing around the idea of getting some "POD" injectors at the same time. Now what adjustments should be made if I do both changes to her? Help me out here. My buddies out pull me when we go camping from a stop sign. I pull a 27 ft. trailer, and they have a 27 and a 28 footer, of course they all have Cummins' also. Is there anything else? I hope they don't see this post on here. I want to surprise them this spring, he,he,he. :D :D

3dracer,

I recommend that you save your $ and keep your non wastegated 16cm housing. The wastegated 12cm will be nice and snappy off the line and unloaded, but you're gonna find that it's too restrictive when you're towing. For more power, get some bigger injectors :D With the PODs, and a wastegated 14cm, I made 30psi no problem. Then I opened up the wastegate quite a bit and brought it down to 26psi. I have not turned my fuel screw past the lock collar (yet :D)

Oh, what do you have for a transmission?

Cheers,

Sean

I don't have anything negative at all to say about the 12 cm housing. Temps are down with the change and boost is up 10#. I used to be able to hit 1300* with 8 ton behind me, now 1200* at the very most. Unloaded, I could hit 1000* on certain hills, how 850*. I feel that it is well worth it and I only had to pay $10 for gaskets and received the 12 for the 21. The only part that I didn't like was screwing with the downpipe. If you do it measure 1. 5" completely around the pipe and cut along that line, NOT straight down, or the pipe will be disconnected from the turbo until you fix it;)

Hey 3d',

Have you "upped" the governed speed as well?? If so, to what RPM?

You'll have no problem with the 12 IF you keep your fueling reasonable... if you put in POD's and leave the pump cranked up according to that "how to" I'm betting you'll see high EGT's on hard pulls/heavy load.

Your transmission is of course a factor as well...

To be honest, I'd look at a WG 14cm since you tow. You can always tighten it down,or ease it up as needed.

The 12 is quickest off the line to be sure, but how much of your drive is stoplight to stoplight?? ;)

You can "fuel" the 14cm to spoolup pretty darn quick if you want launch performance. .

3dracer,

In order to get the full advantage of the POD's you should advance the timing to 1. 4 -1. 5 and increase the rpm to 2900 - then your buddies will likely see the rear end of your outfit. :D

12cm housing

I found a place where I can buy a 12cm that will bolt right in without the tail pipe modification. I'm not sure about the model of the trans. , but I was told it it the same as a 727 with OD. Also this 12cm housing is "non" wastegated. $130 and freight to my house. PODS are $375 and freight. Thanks for the input,,,,,

I have a wastegated 12cm on my truck and I love it. It is quick off the line and I have had no problems with towing my 29 foot Holiday Rambler trailer. EGT is good.
