Hello,

Im going to buy a new 25+5 gooseneck 2 axle dual from TX pride or big tx or load trail since Im close enough to those companies and didnt know if the upgrade to Hyd disc is needed on a 25+5 or the 5 inch wide Elec drums are good enough?

Thanks Dave , Cleveland TX

Sounds good, I will make some calls monday.

Also seems like most guys like the low profile- pierced frame crossmember style right? Initially I didnt like the idea.

I noticed that TX Pride has pierced frame as $500 option and looks like it is standard on Big Tx

I would go Big Tex or Load Trail before Texas Pride. The economy trailers have poor paint, options are all extra and sometimes inferior axles.

Modern vehicles come with disc brakes for very good reasons. Ease of maint, fade resistance, much less chance of contamination from salt, debris, or axle lube to mention a few.

I would question this one, calipers are prone to issues with road spray. Years ago I bought an old Town & Country (1958) park model, about 18 years old at the time. Guess what, the electric drum brakes still worked. My guess if they were hydraulic, the system would be ruined from lack of maintenance, rusted up from front to back, leaking/corroded wheel cylinders and electric over hydraulic master unit destroyed.

I am not saying hydraulic disk are not good brakes in general, I am saying electric drums work and work fine. There are millions on the road in use today and thousands being produced daily.

Hey guys, well I called Big Tex and they said $3000 extra for Hyd disc on 12K tandem......ouch.

Looking online I see I could buy Kodiak hyd disc brake kits and a Dexter pump for $2000 If I wanted to upgrade it myself, right off the bat or I could get some use and upgrade when the elec brakes weaken.

Wonder if I pulled the brand new Dexter 12K elec brakes and drums off if anyone would buy them or they end up scrapped??
