On my '03 dually I want to be able to cut off 12V power to my camper when I turn off the ignition key. As it now sits from the factory I have to unplug to separate the truck from the camper. I have a Painless Circuit Block with 4 switched and 3 unswitched circuits installed on the truck now for driving lamps etc. Can someone tell me what circuit on the truck is the charge line? I would then attach to my Painless Circuit on the switched side. I am not concerned with installing a heavier gauge line just want to use what I have which is fused and has an inline circuit breaker. Is this possible or how hard is it to get at that charge wire? Thanks.

It is probably possible but might be difficult. What is the rated amperage of the fuse or breaker for the trailer charge line? Compare the rated current of the OEM installation to the maximum current rating of the line you plan to use in the Painless Wiring fuse block. Your current to the charge line will be limited by whatever the Painless Wiring circuit provides and it may not be sufficient.

You should be able to locate the always hot wire in the harness at the trailer tow seven pin connector at the rear of your truck. Identify the color of that wire and find it under the cab.

I have a Painless block on my current truck and had one on both of my previous ones but don't recall what the current rating of each circuit is.

near the bumper open the harness and find and cut the red wire with a vilot tracer get a 30 amp lighting relay and place the wires across the normally open contacts. ground one side of the coil and the other to a switched leg on the painless and use a three amp fuse.

Thanks guys: I will do this right and will wire up a heavier gauge charge line, install a solenoid to separate truck from camper and not even bother with the stock wiring. I will have a separate system away from the oem wiring with a shorter run to the camper than I have now. Thanks again.
