A 6speed will work but its going to be hard. Not sure if its possible on a 4x4 without a 3" body lift. Mine was a 2wd frame that I converted to 4x4 which I cut and chopped alot of the crossmember out (looks stock now but no where near how it was) this made it possible to drop the engine/trany down lower there for almost clearing the tunnel. I did have to cut and grind one little area but it wasn't a big deal. Look around the TDR and ask ALOT of questions about the 6-speed! you will find you will be wasting money and time as the 5speed is just as strong, one less gear to shift and is alot smaller and cheaper. I wish now I would have went to a 5-speed but at the time a 6-speed sounded alot cooler!

I have a bunch of pics and writeups to here on the TDR and Compdiesel that you could look at. PM me if you have any questions.

I found it easier with the 2wd frame but that was just my self... I was converting to 4x4 anyway. The fuel system is a piece of cake on the 12 valve. Mechanical off the engine, just hook up the lines, bleed the air and it should fire up. If you get a P-pumped engine you will have to wire in for the fuel shut off or go with a mechanical unit like I did which is nice for pre-oiling the engine before start up. The computer... . the only wiring I have for the engine is the tach, temp sensor and thats about it... you can wire in the sensors you want just try to use the GM sensors which make it easier to wire. Also, I prefer the dodge ALT and have a alt shop wire in a tach wire and an external regulator. . The engine will fit no problem but it is tight. I have 1 1/2" from the firewall to the head and there is about 3/4" from the rad to the fan.

In 1990 a place called Vehicle Research and Development outside Pontiac Michigan installed a 12V with an allison in a GMC 3500 for General Motors as a test bed. I got to ride in it an it ran great, rode good and an all round good vehicle. Asked how much to put one in my 1990 Suburban and they told me I didn't want to know.
