there are a few dif. between the 24v and the c. r. head gaskets. i think you may want to address them before installing. did you blow yoyrs? they seem to hold pretty good. not with o rings of course but in stock form.

i would think that the stock MLS gasket would be better than a 12v one. heck you maybe could even find some that are thicker i know cummins used different sizes in the newer engines to help with emmissions.

From what I've read on the forums the 3G MLS (multi-layer sandwich) is more durable and can withstand higher boost & exhaust drive pressures, however there is one major caveat. . . it is much more sensitive to proper head & deck prep before installation. Your block deck and head surface have to be perfectly square & clean, and head torqued carefully.

I think the MLS comes in only one thickness--stock. So if you want to go thicker a 2nd Gen HG is the way to go.

i dont think you ca o ring the 3g head gaskets. but i do think from seeing what others are doing that they will hold a lot compared to the older head sets

Thanks for yalls input, I went ahead & put it together , I have . 012 Protrusion on the 0-rings. . 5mm thicker head gasket, only took . 07 off of the head to flatten it. So far so good. The cam I put in this truck called for the overhead to set at . 015 & . 018, After running it in, I couldnt stand it anymore & changed it to . 010 & . 018, the top end rattle on . 015 sounded like sh#t. Anybody heard of a . 015-. 018 setting on the overhead?????

i remember reading that the hpcr mls head gaskets are avalable in a few different thicknesses to compensate for factory machining variations just to make sure they all have the same final compression for emissions ratings. i can't remember where i read it, but if i do and find proof i will post it.

thats correct. it was in the tdr magazine. they mentioned that the deck height is checked and gasket matched.

No I didn't blow mine. I had the head off so I had it O-ringed with the 24v gasket. Just took a few mods. Couldn't get the 3rd gen. to work.
