12v Inition Source

I even purchased a special tool for removing the cigar lighter and still had no success. I had heard of others actually breaking the lighter while trying to remove it. I finally removed the dash trim (which just pops off) and then had access to the cubby screws. Once you remove the cubby, you can gain access to the cigar lighter wire. I ran a pigtail to a remote fuse block so that it would be easier to add additional accessories in the future.

Just installed e-brake, works good! But I need to tap into cigar lighter voltage for toggle switch illumination. That's cool but how do I get to it. Or are there other source's available under dash that will be easier to access. Need a little help from those with experience.
Also, gauges going in when parts arrive so I'll need to use that source as well. Thanks.

put a fuse tap in the fuse-the fuse is in the little compartment on the drivers side dash-chris

Lordsman, I have a '96 and I found a ign. power right behind the fuse panel. There was a black w/orange strips wire. I bought the truck used so I don't know if all the trucks have a wire cut off just sitting waiting for someone to use it. I also found a tap at the same site for the piller guages. There are 5 small orange wires in the wire loom. Would you beleive it, the first one I tried was to the dash lights fader switch. All of these wires are real easy to get to, right behind the panel under the steering wheel. Hope this helps... keep the faith Bro.

Lordsman the light for the drink holder is the longest lead and the easiest to get to for your illumination connection and you can do it from the front without crawling under the dash.

Well I got the dash apart(somewhat), I could not get cigar lighter unhooked,I even have long skinny fingers. Did not want to dismantle entire dash. Found that ignition lead going into lighter(big red lead)after removing the cubby hole and tapped it. Used it for e-brake toggle switch illumination and power for pyrometer module. Also tapped off of tan lead to headlight switch dash lights for gauge lights. Everything works and the wife even liked the gauge set-up!
