Thanks, TDR Staff

Decisions, Decisions 12v or P-pump conversion??

4 BT swaps Who has done them and in what ?

03 CR bad motor 6spd... . 12v looking at the truck as a good candidate?

Mechanically shouldn't be a problem.

Electrically? Could you get all the gauges to work correctly? Anything else tied to the engine computer?

Thinking... .

Can't do it. Engine must be the same year of the truck or newer.

Steve,

no offense but what crack-head told you this cant be done??? this is the CONVERSION forum. You could put a Briggs&Stratton in a semi if you wanted, there is no such thing as "it cant be done"

TJarecke,

I say go for it, I just finished putting a 07 commonrail into my 98 12v truck and I have to say that it would be much easier doing the swap you want to do. The 12v will bolt in with the c/r motor mounts, the biggest problem you will have will be getting the instruments to work. the c/r comunicates all engine data to the cluster through a can-bus link which the 12v doesnt have. you will also have some issues with the cooling fan as they are in different locations between the 12v and the c/r, electric fans will cure that issue. I say go for it and dont listen to all the people saying it cant be done, if i would have listened to all them then I would still be driving a 98 12v instead of my sweet c/r powered 98!!! good luck!!

I was referring the to the EPA laws. I should have said "Can't legally do the swap". Here in AZ the DMV would have a fit finding a 12V in place of a CR.

Speaking of "crackheads"... the DMV folks would never know, as long as it passed any "sniffer" tests. '03 does not have a kitty or EGR. Except for the electronics, I would say it would be a bolt in job. The block is the same, by what I understand. Would have to fabricate a throttle cable, radiator hoses, etc.

Haven't.
Waiting on my brother to decide, since it is actually his $$$. I know he wants to, but we are dealing with the cold and lack of a good place to work on it right now.

If they plug into the OBD-II and look for codes, you're going to have some s'plaining to do LOL

now, if you live in New Mexico, Oklahoma, or any other state that doesn't have inspections? that would be my dream swap... I'd love to take the 12v out of my 98 and put it in my mega cab!
