I'm interested in hearing any information out there on the TST PowerUpgrade kit for the 12v motors, such as actual performance gains, effects on mileage, etc. Also, does anyone out there have any experience with Blue Chip Diesel? They're kind of up my way. Thanks in advance.

Have recently installed the 230 hp TST kit in my 12v 98 manual w/4. 10's. It does not seem to effect the fuel milage but there is considerble more power, and at 19,000+ GCVR I can tell the difference in shift points.

I would compare it to changing from 2 to 4 barrel carb on my old Phord 390. Real noticable but not enough to be the big winner on race day.

I have a 280hp kit in my '96 CC 4x4 5spd. The power increase was huge. Mileage suffers only if my right foot gets too heavy. EGT's running empty are about the same, even under hard acceleration.

I put a 230 HP kit in my 97 auto, and that, coupled with the lockup switch, made a tremendous improvement in power & driveability, the difference was like night & day. I would never have been satisfied with 180 HP as it turns out, but for the last 2 1/2 years, the 230 kit has made every trip a thrill. BUT, Brad already has a 215 HP 5-spd truck. I really don't know how much bang he will get for his $300 bucks, just upping it another 15 HP. He might want to step on up to 250 or 270 for the same money. Remember, I jumped 50 HP with mine, for him to get the same % increase, he will have to go to at least 270 HP. ... ... ..... DDG

While I would like to think I could use
"More Power ", TST cautions about clutch slippage with heavy loads when getting above the 230 hp 605 ft lb level. I'm not ready to replace a clutch yet, maybe in another 2-300,000 miles or so.

I have to caution you about looking at the 230hp kit as just a 15hp improvement for your stock 215hp. This kit will also increase you torque to 605ftlb, which is significantly higher than the available torque of your stock 215hp Cummins. Ever notice that diesel engines have relatively low hp numbers compared to gas engines and significantly higher torque... Makes you wonder what you really want to improve. At $300, you can't buy a better performance improvement.

Good luck

I would not be afraid of going to at least the 250 hp kit with the 5 speed. 270 would be OK if you drive it sensibly.
