12v source from fuse box for gauge lighting.

Hello all, so here's my problem, I got out my handy dandy multimeter to figure out which fuse circuits are tied to the light switch. When I found two possible places and crimped and heat shrunk the connections on my fuse splice, I'm getting no power to the gauge led. I'm confused as to why that is. I know I can tap into the dimmer switch but I don't like cutting factory wiring or using those blade style splices. Any help is appreciated!
