There's 2 camps out there on where timing should be set for performance. One is 15. 5 to 17/18 and the second is no less than 24. Who has made this change & what was the affect?

I know o-rings, studs, etc is required. I'm interested in who did it & what driveability changes were there, dyno changes, mileage changes, spool up, etc.

I'm not after opinions, just the scoop from real tests. :)

thanks

i was told that anything higher than 23. 5 deg. of timing is not very street friendly, my truck is set at 20deg. of timing, sounds alot more like a 24v truck in gear, not much change at ilde, noticeably harder to start in cold weather, top end preformance is much better than say 16 deg. of timing, definately need a good fire ring/ oring job, and studs, truck does loose a bit of low end power, but it makes up in the upper rpm's. i drive my truck all day long with no starting problems, only in cold weather does it want to throw a fit.

my timing is at 24* and I drive mine on the street, better top end performance I think. Definitely alot more rattle. And up here in PA. in the winter it can be a pain to start sometimes but other than that no problems.

What is Max timing for Mileage? - no towing

What is Max timing for towing?

I thought Max timing for towing was around 16 degrees advanced.
