Competition Pull in Tennessee. 9/27

Ive been looking thru the site and have not found any type of guideline on how to up 12v performance. Is there a general rule, or maybe a step by step list for a guidline somewhere? Anyways i was wondering if anyone knows what kind of 1/4 mile times i could put down in a '94 5speed 2 wheel drive, standard cab with 370 injectors and a number 4 plate. I know i will need a clutch, and traction will be a huge issue, but what will i be looking at as far as times go??

There's a lot of variables here, but you should be high 15's to low 16's.

As far as a basic list of power adders.

Governor spring kits help a lot for racing. (more rpm/ less lag between shifts)

Bigger turbo (HX40)

Southbend Clutch

Advance injection timing

aFe Mega Cannon

There's a 2wd, 5 speed on slicks here in Texas running 12. 0 - 12. 1 second quarter mile times. That's about the upper limit right now with that combination. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go.

You have the fuel, you need to work on the air.

Timing, Turbo, Filter, Exhaust.

and a way to put it down. Clutch, and traction, although, for a 14 second truck, tracton isn't a main concern.

You'll need between 450 and 500HP to run a mid/low 14.

I had no idea another turbo would be needed. What are the limits of the stock turbo? Also, i bought my truck with a 4 inch exhaust, no mufler. Will i need to go bigger?

4" straight pipe is great.

It's not that you need another turbo,, although a twin turbo system would be awesome, and would make even more power, what you need is a different turbo.

Most likely an HX-40. The HX-40 is good to mid 400HP, and is at it's upper limits at 500HP, but it will make a good daily driven turbo, and will free up alot of HP on the top-end.

EDIT: Limits of stock turbo,, after 36PSI,, you start heating the air so much, you take steps backwards in performance.

Do you have gauges on your truck? What is your current boost/EGT?

The biggest reason that there is no direct relationship set in stone is that EVERY 12v engine is diffrent. Some respond poorly to upgrades, then others, like me, run like you stuck a gallon of nytroglycern in the fuel tank. Not that I have ever tried that.

A little off the subject in a way but how about a 95' regular cab 2WD auto with slicks, Ported head, Twins, stock 180 pump(changed) 370 Injectors running 12. 0's at 114mph... . sounds good to me.

You would not be talking about Mr. Fletcher would you?

Yep, ole Bill is making some noise with my old pump, more than I ever did as my best MPH was 107... . question is what the heck is going to happen if he gets a stupid pump, he and I have passed 40 E-mails or so back and forth and I told him the other day I wasn't going to help him anymore as he has gone right past me in performance:p Hope I get to make it up there but there are still a few things in the balance, need to get out of here by this weekend to make the dyno event, hope I'll see you'll.

I have had the pleasure of watching him race several times and that truck rocks!!!

I was behind the wheel myself (not to race) very cool!!!!

I hope to see you at Piers!

And Fletcher also!!!!

And the flip side to that is a 95' auto with slicks, ported head, new short block, Piers cam, no plate, 215 pump, twins, 5" exhaust, Dtt trans, crazy injectors and only 13. 94 @ 101????

Explain that one, all that work and thats all I get??

Ok so what does a 96 5 speed 4x4 with a stock 215 plate with the slots ground out so it will slide farther, stock injectors, stock turbo, and blocked wastegate, BHAF and a sticky clutch do?

Jff24Gordn,

I've got a few guys running 5 speeds with just some pump work.

They will go between 15. 5 to 16. 5 @ 87-89 MPH. Et depends on shifting and launch.
