In the recall report, https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RCLRPT-17V562-4418.PDF, the NHTSA references that the “Concentric water pump without the vent hole” as being the pump subject to the recall.

We searched the Geno’s Garage inventory (Mopar 68210961AA and Cummins 4309429) to look for the absence of the vent hole. We looked at an employee’s ‘16 Ram truck for the same vent hole.

Here is a picture of what we believe to be a good pump (Mopar 68210961AA and Cummins 4309429). This pump has the vent hole.

This vent hole is not to be confused with a water pump weep hole. The water pump weep hole on both the ’16 Ram truck and our “good” (Mopar 68210961AA and Cummins 4309429) is at the 6 o’clock position (not shown in the photo). What is shown in the photo is a “vent hole” at the 11 o’clock for, what we assume, is a good pump.

Again, the ’16 Ram truck we inspected did not have the 11 o’clock vent hole. Our guess is the ’16 Ram truck’s pump will be a part of the recall.

It is our guess that the 11 o’clock vent hole is the identification mark that will be used in the field.
