At Cummins Truck Fest at Bandimere Speedway (5800 ft) in Denver on Sunday I finally got the truck into the thirteens. :) After my first run of the day (13. 83) you could'nt wipe the smile off my face.

It was 91* when I ran the 13. 68. We got rained out so I still had at least two more runs left. The temperture dropped about 20* so I hoped the rain would subside and we could continue. Oh well.

The changes I made from my previous best of 14. 26 @ 95 are as follows;

I changed my clutch from the Luk Ceramettalic to a South Bend 13" FE. There is no comparison! I added approx. 70 more flywheel hp and this clutch did not slip a bit! I launched harder and made a total of 9 runs over the weekend. I was told by spectators that on my last run (I accidentally let the clutch out too fast) that the truck "left the ground". Getrags are good. :D Thank you Peter. Now how about a stronger single disk yet? :)

I changed my injectors from PDR POD's to bigger Dyno-Mite Diesel Performance #4. I highly recommend either injector. The # 4s are cleaner at idle, make a little more hp (25?) and of course are more expensive. Both idle smooth and reduce the engine noise from stockers. Thank you Lenny.

Changed the turbo from a PDR HX 35/16 to a HTT HTB2 62/14. Spools the same at the bottom end but midrange - top end is way faster. Cooler at the top end also. I added the injectors before the turbo change and I picked about 2 psi (max 39) After the new turbo; 37 psi. I estimate I picked up another 25? hp. Thank you Paul and Brandon.

Removed Banks exhaust and added a Rip Rook complete 4" downpipe and exhaust with a muffler. It is as quiet as my Banks,which is what I wanted. I estimate another 10? hp. Thank you Rip.

I also turned the fuel screw in all the way (only 1/8 turn was left) another 5 -10? hp.

Added a K & N filter to be used only at the track. Before turbo change the HX 35 would never suck in filter minder more than 10%. After, it sucked it in halfway.

Last but not least, Thank you Brian (KTA Cummins on the Diesel-Central website) for answering my questions through e-mails. I got some ideas in my head ater talking to you and it was then I decided I needed bigger injectors and a way to get more air.

I will now be forced to install my governor spring that I've had laying around for 2 years since I de-fuel around 103 mph. Maybe I'll even try a KTA Special pump head. Hello HTT, could you convert this to a Sled Puller 66 please? :D

I apoligize for being long but I just wanted to answer the questions I was asked a lot over the weekend. Many were surprised the engine looked much like their stockers. It's nothing fancy, and I keep no secrets, but the combo works good so far. Estimated 385 Denver rear wheel hp.

No governor spring?? Lord have mercy :-laf , you haven't seen top end yet ;) . That htb2 will really come alive with a 366 spring, and even more with a kta rotorhead. Great work!

Good job Kurt! I missed the 13. 6 Run but I was there for the 13. 8.

I told my brother-in-law(a powerstroker) who was with me to watch that red 1st gen... he'll run a 14. You surprised us with a 13 second pass!

You guys should see him shift that truck. The crowd was in awe.
