Won't fit between the frame rails. If you want to try a 13 speed, look for a 600 or a 6600 series. They were used in medium duty trucks behind the 3208 Cats, 555 Cummins, and 6v53 Detroits. Plus you will have to have an air system to shift the auxiliary box. You can get them in overdrive, under-drive, and direct. They are also designed to work with push type clutches, the bigger ones ( like the one in the picture ) is designed to work with a 15" pull type clutch.

I have a 16 speed in my 75 Dodge w/air shift that looks like it would fit, but why? The motor/frame/axle would never match it, the main box is a slow shifter, it weighs a ton, and I at least always have to look at it after driving awhile when slowing down to remember what range I'm in. It matches the 2-stroke in front of it where you have a peaky powerband and make 4-5 shifts crossing an intersection, but it doesn't take long for the luster of that to wear off. Airlines are easy for me to acess on the C-cab but on a D or Ram they would be bear, when they leak they don't shift. Did I mention parasitic drag or parts inavailibility? give me a 9 speed any day.

I haven't tried to shovel this in a 1-ton, but it could work. These trannies are heavy. I think a 9 sp weighs about 590 without the clutch and housing. They need air and you have to check if the clutch is a push or pull type. You would have to get a transmission with a #2 SAE bellhousing and buy a #2 SAE flywheel housing and flywheel for the 5. 9. The way they do the motor mounts are different too, with one on the front of the motor and two on the flywheel housing. Then you would have to change some yokes and u-joints on your drive shaft. If you have never drove a big rig transmission, you would definately want to try it out because its not like a wimpy syncro pickup transmission. It's not something your going to let a lot of people drive, especially the wife.
