Ok boys, here goes, going to look at a '93 3500 4wd 5spd with 94k on it, here's the list of recent work, (too the tune of $7k per owner);

-completely rebuilt 5spd, clutch, pp, pilot bearing, etc.

-completely rebuilt front end, everything.

-6 new tires.

-new spring in all four corners.

I'm going from a '01 2500, will I be happy with the power???

asking price $13,000

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Hmm

13 could be right for a real saucey rig, but you will not be happy at all with the power, at least not without spending some dough. I have yet to drive a 24v, but have been in many of them, and in their stock form, they will blow away a stock or even moderatly modified 1st gen. I have tinkered with my truck some, and have come to like the power, but when I climb in a newer 12v or 24v truck... for some reason I start calculating loan payments

P. S. Don't get me wrong, I love my first gens, but when you have an engine that has a hx-35 equivelent turbo with a 21/18 exhaust housing on it, the soft 160hp blowing through it does little to impress any boost gauge or seat of someone's pants :D

I dunno. My Dad has a 1990 std cab 5 speed 350 CTD. 2 wheel drive.

I tell you what, I dont know if his has been turned up (bought it used 2 years old with 30K miles for $12K) but he could most likley whoop my truck from 40 to 70 mph. He has the 4. 10 gears, and not having to shift makes a big difference.

Dam truck is pretty fast!!

Get a set of PW injectors, move the timing ahead, put in a good exhaust, change turbo over to a 12CM HX35, and a few other tweaks, and the power will be fine. Not 245 HP ISB range, but very responsive.

I paid $12,500 for my 93 W350 ext. cab. , LE package last year. However, it had 55k original miles and was in immaculate condition in all regards. Plus it had captains chairs, roof visor, running boards, toneau cover, and a very custom tow package with a tri-bar extension, Pioneer CD stereo, etc. It was honestly the nicest First Gen I have ever seen so I went for it. I have seen guys asking more for less of a truck. First Gen's used to typically bring higher than Blue Book values because they were in such I demand. Some dealers I talked to had guys on a waiting list for one. That is in my area though in Northwest WA state.

Prices do seemed to have come down though since 9/11. In fact the whole used car market went soft since alot of manufacturers where offering 0% on new rigs.

So yeah, I would say 13k is not unreasonable if it is a nice one and since it has all that work done (esp. transmission) it would be a good value. Depening on options the current BB value is around 13k for that rig w/ 94k so he is in the ball park... .

The one problem in passing it up is that you may have to look for a long long time before you find another like it. But if you are not in a hurry then no big deal.

Regarding power difference, I don't now since all I have ever had is the 93.

One other thought...

Why all this work at only 94k? I know that the Getrags have been known to give up the ghost w/ low miles, but the whole front end too? That front Dana 60 setup is one of the toughest. Find out what the truck was used for... . Make sure it hasn't been abused or you may be replacing more parts at an early age.

I paid $12K for my 93 D350 LE last year and considered myself lucky since I had been looking for a couple of years and they were usually priced about $3K over bluebook.

Only thing that made it overly costly was I blew up the Getrag hauling a heavy load cross-country last summer, in Iowa. It cost me $4,750 as an out-of-towner at the mercy of a greedy dodge dealer.

Regardless, I'm real happy with this truck!Oo.

BTW, The seller was asking $14K (bluebook at the time)and it had a new injector pump and new exhaust system. I had to almost walk away from it but he really wanted to sell it in the end.
