Hello,
New here but have used the search function. Just crossed over 210,000 miles on my 14 3500 srw. I use it mainly to two my 10k fifth wheel. About a year ago i started getting this weird shutter only when i would hit 40 mph, level off, and then abruptly pull my foot off the accelerator. I've ignored it for a while but now i hear this weird noise clunking at 15 mph but its not every time (unloaded). I took it to a friend who is also a diesel mechanic amongst other things. He actually ended up with 3 people looking at it, none of which could figure it out. I bought it on a diet, and he stated the tune on it had to 150+hp but he couldn't read it, no get much in the way of data logs off of it. Any OBDII reader i've tried doesn't usually gather much data. The other odd note is the truck is and has always looked for the exhaust brake (U010C lost coms with turbo).
His take was it appears the tune is an odd one, and he wants to take it back to a more stockfish tow tune, and if i was willing to reinstall a more stock turbo with exhaust brake (current is a bd iron horn, not sure of size) and refresh it and the TCM to see if that helps. He seems to think the TCM and PCM are not talking correctly and are loosing info.
I'd like an exhaust brake, but I know i could accomplish this with less time and effort (and cost) with an aftermarket BD electric exhaust brake. I'd like to see how the computer does with it. If the tune was bad i would think that i would have had issues from the start with it. Otherwise the TC could be going south. Incredibly frustraighting as I don't want to destroy anything. Thoughts?
