Started the truck in -15 degree temps when it was not plugged in. It started kind of hard, but that was understandable given the temps. Truck set these codes:

500

1693

253

251

252

1693

I have read what they are, and now I am concerned about my injection pump. The truck runs just fine. Should I be looking for a new pump, or just wait for the codes to clear and not worry about this???

500= you have spun the tires, snow and ice or :-laf :-laf :-laf

1693= companion code, sets when ever something else sets.

251,252,253= VP problems :( :( :( Get a scanner and clear them and see if they return, but get prepared to replace the VP.

Are you still in warranty ;) probably not with the comp if you tapped.

It doesn't look good for you VP-44. 500 is your speed sensor on your rear axes. I've had that one on and off for a few years now. 1693 is no big deal either.

Well, Randy, I think you said it last fall with the Comp shudder issue so now I'll repeat it again - it appears as though our trucks do have a LOT in common for some strange reason.

My check engine light came on also just this morning after a cold start.

P0251

P0252

The temp here was the same as your place and I also did not have the truck plugged in (wasn't planning on driving the truck, but the Subaru also decided to break down this am).

Truck runs just fine. VP-44 was replaced last summer/fall and is still under warranty. Might these codes clear up on their own, or should I be calling in now for warranty replacement? How many starts would it take, if they were to clear on their own?

Also, not sure if possibly temp related, but has anyone ever experienced their vacuum pump spewing a few teaspoons of oil on really cold morning starts? Seems to not be leaking anymore.

It's 30 Starts for the codes to clear, if they are not cleared by a scan tool. Moose00

codes cleared....

Deon - my codes are gone. Truck is running fine for now. Something to keep an eye on for the future I guess. I think it must have been the cold weather and not being plugged in. Most of the time mine is in the garage or plugged in - same deal, I did not plan on driving the truck.

Some of us who live in warm climates have been working to find ways to cool the fuel in an effort to improve the life expectancy of the VP. I have often wondered if extreem cold can be hard on the VP as well. Any thoughts?

My check engine light went off today so I'm also going to assume that it was due to the cold and not being plugged in. Never had this problem before though and I've started it at -20 without being plugged in. That was on the original VP though and maybe this new one reacts a bit different to the extreme temps.

BTW, does anyone know what the term "pending" means in relation to the OBD-II codes? When I pulled the codes the other day it showed P0251 and P0252 under "Trouble Codes" *and* "Pending Codes". I'm guessing that pending indicates the trouble apparently does not exist anymore and that the code is "pending" being cleared after the 30 start cycles is reached.
